Abstract:
The present invention is an adjustable support bar that includes a pair of wall anchor brackets with a pair of apertures, a plurality of bracket fasteners that secure the pair of wall anchor brackets to a support surface, a pair of extension tubes each extended into the pair of wall anchor brackets and a u-shaped support bar grasped by a user to accommodate and support the user. The adjustable support bar also includes a base extension tube contained within the elongated base bar of the u-shaped support bar, the base extension tube allows the elongated base bar to be extended. The adjustable support bar can be threaded or utilizes a plurality of apertures and a plurality of securing pins to secure the adjustable support bar.

Claims:
1. An adjustable support bar, comprising: a pair of wall anchor brackets secured on a support surface, the pair of wall anchor brackets each includes a front surface, a pair of sides and a pair of apertures, the pair of apertures are disposed on the front surface; a plurality of bracket fasteners that secure the pair of wall anchor brackets to the support surface; a pair of extension tubes each with a first end, the pair of extension tubes extends into the pair of wall anchor brackets; a u-shaped support bar grasped by a user to accommodate and support the user, the u-shaped support bar includes an elongated base bar, the elongated base bar with a first perpendicular extending end and a second perpendicular extending end, the first perpendicular extending end and the second perpendicular extending end are hollow and contain the pair of extension tubes that extend from the first perpendicular extending end and the second perpendicular extending end; a base extension tube contained within the elongated base bar of the u-shaped support bar, the base extension tube allows the elongated base bar to be extended; a first set of apertures, a second set of apertures, a third set of apertures and a fourth set of apertures, the first set of apertures is disposed on the pair of sides of the pair of wall anchor brackets, the second set of apertures are disposed on the first ends of the pair of extension tubes, the second set of apertures correspond in position with the first set of apertures that are disposed on the pair of sides of the pair of wall anchor brackets, the first set of apertures and the second set of apertures removably receive a first securing pin to removably secure the first ends of the pair of extension tubes to the pair of wall anchor brackets, the third set of apertures are disposed on the pair of extension tubes and correspond in position with the fourth set of apertures that are disposed on the first perpendicular extending end and the second perpendicular extending end of the u-shaped support bar, the third set of apertures and the fourth set of apertures removably receive a second securing pin, the second securing pin to removably secure the pair of extension tubes to the first perpendicular extending end and the second perpendicular extending end of the u-shaped support bar; and a fifth set of apertures disposed on the base extension tube, the fifth set of apertures correspond in position with a sixth set of apertures, the sixth set of apertures are disposed on the elongated base bar of the u-shaped support bar, the fifth set of apertures and the sixth set of apertures removably receive a third securing pin to removably secure the base extension tube to the elongated base bar.

2. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the support surface is a wall.

3. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the bracket fasteners are a selected one of a pair of screws and a pair of bolts.

4. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the pair of extension tubes are each approximately 12 inches in length.

5. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the pair of extension tubes extend outward up to approximately 3 inches.

6. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the user is a selected one of an elderly person and a person with limited mobility.

7. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the u-shaped support bar is made of brushed metal.

8. The adjustable support bar according to claim 7, wherein the u-shaped support bar is made of brushed stainless steel.

9. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the u-shaped support bar is made of durable plastic.

10. The adjustable support bar according to claim 1, wherein the base extension tube is approximately 8 inches in length.

11. An adjustable support bar, comprising: a pair of threaded anchor brackets secured on a support surface, the pair of threaded anchor brackets each includes a front surface, each of the front surfaces include a threaded aperture; a plurality of bracket fasteners that secure the pair of wall anchor brackets to the support surface; a threaded u-shaped support bar that includes a threaded base bar, the threaded base bar with a first threaded perpendicular extending end and a second threaded perpendicular extending end; and a pair of threaded end extensions and a threaded base extension, the pair of threaded end extensions is removably screwed into the first threaded perpendicular extending end and the second threaded perpendicular extending end of the threaded u-shaped support bar, the pair of threaded end extensions are removably screwed into each threaded aperture to removably secure the adjustable support bar into the support surface, the threaded base bar is extended with the threaded base extension that is screwed into a middle portion of the threaded base bar.

12. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the support surface is a wall.

13. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the bracket fasteners is a pair of screws.

14. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the bracket fasteners is a pair of bolts.

15. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the pair of threaded end extensions is approximately 3 inches in length.

16. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the threaded base extension tube is approximately 8 inches in length.

17. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the user is a selected one of an elderly person and a person with limited mobility.

18. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the threaded u-shaped support bar is made of brushed metal.

19. The adjustable support bar according to claim 18, wherein the threaded u-shaped support bar is made of brushed stainless steel.

20. The adjustable support bar according to claim 11, wherein the threaded u-shaped support bar is made of durable plastic.

Description:

TECHNICAL FIELD & BACKGROUND

Currently there are restricted options for adjustable disability equipment for an elderly person or a person with limited mobility. A citizen with one or more disabilities sometimes fail to find one or more adjustable support bars where they are frequently needed to assist an elderly person or a person with limited mobility on a daily basis.

The present invention generally relates to a support bar. More specifically, the invention is an adjustable support bar.

It is an object of the invention to provide an adjustable support bar that serves as a support tool for assisted movement.

It is an object of the invention to provide an adjustable support bar that can be extended outward or sideways to accommodate and support an elderly person or a person with limited mobility.

It is an object of the invention to provide an adjustable support bar that can be relatively easily adjusted to accommodate an elderly person or a person with limited mobility.

What is needed is an adjustable support bar that serves as a support tool for assisted movement that can be extended outward or sideways to accommodate and support an elderly person or a person with limited mobility that can be relatively easily adjusted to accommodate an elderly person or a person with limited mobility.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATIVE EMBODIMENTS

Various aspects of the illustrative embodiments will be described using terms commonly employed by those skilled in the art to convey the substance of their work to others skilled in the art. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced with only some of the described aspects. For purposes of explanation, specific numbers, materials and configurations are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the illustrative embodiments. However, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without the specific details. In other instances, well-known features are omitted or simplified in order not to obscure the illustrative embodiments.

Various operations will be described as multiple discrete operations, in turn, in a manner that is most helpful in understanding the present invention. However, the order of description should not be construed as to imply that these operations are necessarily order dependent. In particular, these operations need not be performed in the order of presentation.

The phrase “in one embodiment” is utilized repeatedly. The phrase generally does not refer to the same embodiment, however, it may. The terms “comprising”, “having” and “including” are synonymous, unless the context dictates otherwise.

FIG. 1A illustrates a top view of an adjustable support bar 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

The adjustable support bar 100 includes a pair of wall anchor brackets 110, a plurality of bracket fasteners 120, a pair of extension tubes 130 and a u-shaped support bar 140. The pair of wall anchor brackets 110 is secured on a support surface such as a wall 112 or other suitable support surface. Additional details regarding the pair of wall anchor brackets 110 are illustrated and described in FIG. 1B and its description. The bracket fasteners 120 secure the pair of wall anchor brackets 110 to the wall 112. Additional details regarding the bracket fasteners 120 are illustrated and described in FIG. 1B and its description. The pair of extension tubes 130 each with a first end 132 that extend into the pair of wall anchor brackets 110. Additional details regarding the pair of extension tubes 130 and the pair of wall anchor brackets 110 are illustrated and described in FIG. 1C and its description. The u-shaped support bar 140 is grasped by a user to accommodate and support an elderly person or a person with limited mobility. The u-shaped support bar 140 includes an elongated base bar 142 with a first perpendicular extending end 144 and a second perpendicular extending end 146. The first perpendicular extending end 144 and the second perpendicular extending end 146 are hollow and contain the pair of extension tubes 130 that extend from the first perpendicular extending end 144 and the second perpendicular extending end 146. The u-shaped support bar 140 is made of brushed stainless steel but can be made of any suitable material such as durable plastic or other metal.

FIG. 1B illustrates a front view of a pair of wall anchor brackets 110 of an adjustable support bar 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention. As previously illustrated and described in FIG. 1A and its description, the pair of wall anchor brackets 110 are secured on a support surface such as a wall 112. The pair of wall anchor brackets 110 each includes a front surface 114 and a pair of apertures 116 disposed on the front surface 114. The pair of wall anchor brackets 110 is secured to the wall 112 by a pair of fasteners 118 such as a pair of screws 113, a pair of bolts 115 or any other suitable type of fastener.

FIG. 1C illustrates a side view of an adjustable support bar 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

The adjustable support bar 100 illustrated and described in FIG. 1C includes a pair of wall anchor brackets 110, a wall 112, a plurality of bracket fasteners 120, a pair of extension tubes 130 and a u-shaped support bar 140 that are similar to the pair of wall anchor brackets 110, the wall 112, the plurality of bracket fasteners 120, the pair of extension tubes 130 and the u-shaped support bar 140 illustrated and described in FIG. 1A and FIG. 1B.

The adjustable support bar 100 additionally includes a first set of apertures 150, a second set of apertures 160, a third set of apertures 170 and a fourth set of apertures 180. The first set of apertures 150 is disposed on both sides 111 of the pair of wall anchor brackets 110. The second set of apertures 160 are disposed on the first ends 132 of the pair of extension tubes 130 and correspond in position with the first set of apertures 150 that are disposed on both sides 111 of the pair of wall anchor brackets 110 and removably receive a first securing pin 152 to removably secure the first ends 132 of the pair of extension tubes 130 to the pair of wall anchor brackets 110. The pair of extension tubes 130 are each approximately 12 inches in length but can extend outward up to approximately 3 inches and can be any suitable length or extend any suitable length outward. The third set of apertures 170 are disposed on the pair of extension tubes 130 and correspond in position with the fourth set of apertures 180 that are disposed on the first perpendicular extending end 144 and the second perpendicular extending end 146 of the u-shaped support bar 140 and removably receive a second securing pin 154 to removably secure the pair of extension tubes 130 to the first perpendicular extending end 144 and the second perpendicular extending end 146 of the u-shaped support bar 140.

FIG. 1D illustrates a front view of an adjustable support bar 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

The adjustable support bar 100 also includes a base extension tube 190. The base extension tube 190 is contained within the elongated base bar 142 of the u-shaped support bar 140 and allows the elongated base bar 142 to be extended. A fifth set of apertures 192 is disposed on the base extension tube 190 and correspond in position with a sixth set of apertures 194 that are disposed on the elongated base bar 142 of the u-shaped support bar 140 and removably receive a third securing pin 196 to removably secure the base extension tube 190 to the elongated base bar 142. The base extension tube 190 is approximately 8 inches in length but can be any suitable length.

FIG. 2 illustrates a front view of an adjustable support bar 200 with a plurality of threaded extensions, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

The adjustable support bar 200 illustrated and described in FIG. 2 includes a pair of threaded anchor brackets 220 and a plurality of bracket fasteners 230. The adjustable support bar 200 additionally includes a threaded u-shaped support bar 240 that includes a threaded base bar 242 with a first threaded perpendicular extending end 244 and a second threaded perpendicular extending end 246. In contrast to the adjustable support bar 100 illustrated and described in FIG. 1A and FIG. 1D, the adjustable support bar 200 illustrated and described in FIG. 2 has threaded extensions 210 in contrast to the pair of extension tubes 130 and base extension tube 190 illustrated and described in FIG. 1A and FIG. 1D. The threaded extensions 210 include a pair of threaded end extensions 212 and a threaded base extension 214. The pair of threaded end extensions 212 is removably screwed into the first threaded perpendicular extending end 244 and the second threaded perpendicular extending end 246 of the threaded u-shaped support bar 240. The pair of threaded end extensions 212 is approximately 3 inches in length but can be any suitable length. The threaded base bar 242 can also be extended with the threaded base extension 214 that can be screwed into a middle portion 243 of the threaded base bar 242 to extend the length of the threaded base bar 242. The threaded base extension 214 is approximately 8 inches in length but can be any suitable length. The pair of threaded end extensions 212 can also be secured to the pair of threaded anchor brackets 220 into a wall 215 or other suitable support surface with the bracket fasteners 230. The bracket fasteners 230 can be a pair of screws 231, a pair of bolts 233 or any other suitable type of fastener. The pair of threaded anchor brackets 220 each includes a threaded aperture 221 that contains the pair of threaded end extensions 212 that are removably screwed into each threaded aperture 221 to removably secure the adjustable support bar 200 into the wall 215 or other suitable support surface.

The adjustable support bar is a U-shaped stainless steel brace which assists an individual to transfer their weight onto the adjustable support bar while the individual moves. Utilizing bolts, screws and a wall anchor bracket, the adjustable support bar can be attached to the wall which thereby provides a medium for stable mobility. The adjustable support bar can be positioned anywhere a need for sitting or standing assistance is desirable or necessary, which may help individuals feel more confident about their independence. The adjustable support bar may be readily available at renowned home care or medical supply retailers. The adjustable support bar can be extended vertically and horizontally from three to eight inches from the wall to meet the need of the user. The feature of the grab bar enables the individual to shorten the reaching distance, therefore allowing them to maintain their balance and prevent falls from occurring.

While the present invention has been related in terms of the foregoing embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described. The present invention can be practiced with modification and alteration within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. Thus, the description is to be regarded as illustrative instead of restrictive on the present invention.
