Description:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to strapless bibs.

BACKGROUND

It is known that bibs have long been commercially available. Such bibs are generally created by means of straps that wrap around ones neck, securing by means of tying, VELCRO® or snapping. These bibs for children and the elderly can only stay in place due to the straps that encircle the individuals' neck line. The nuisance of the straps rubbing, chaffing, or tightening around the neck encumbers the wearer of the bibs. Bibs with straps create significant safety risk from strangulation if the bib catches on an object. For some adults, as well, an absorbent bib has become a necessity due to physical disabilities. A more discrete design, without straps, would allow them the dignity they deserve. Having ties around ones neck is an obvious indicator that the individual is indeed wearing a bib.

Thus, it would be desirable to have a bib which has the following combination of desirable features: (1) machine washable when used with mild detergent; (2) able to attach a bib to any outfit without having to fuss with snaps or straps; (3) no rubbing or chafing of your little one's neck; easy to clean, just wipe and go; (4) catches drool, fluids and food with ease; (5) storage is simplified by placing the bib with the magnetic securing mechanism onto most metal appliances, such as a refrigerator or other metal surfaces that are favorable to the magnets polarity; (6) the user can continue their regular activities such as eating or playing without the bib falling off due to the gravitational pull of the magnets, or other securing mechanism as described above; (7) inserts with a flap, by tucking the flap into the individuals clothing (a shirt or “onesy”) at the neckline covering the neckline to deflect any fluid or food that may fall onto the body of the bib; and, (8) may be double sided to be reversible with one side being of absorbent material and the other water resistant and easily wiped clean.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Before beginning a detailed description of the subject invention, mention of the following is in order. When appropriate, like reference materials and characters are used to designate identical, corresponding, or similar components in differing figure drawings. The figure drawings associated with this disclosure typically are not drawn with dimensional accuracy to scale, i.e., such drawings have been drafted with a focus on clarity of viewing and understanding rather than dimensional accuracy.

In the interest of clarity, not all of the routine features of the implementations described herein are shown and described. It will, of course, be appreciated that in the development of any such actual implementation, numerous implementation-specific decisions must be made in order to achieve the developer's specific goals, such as compliance with application- and business-related constraints, and that these specific goals will vary from one implementation to another and from one developer to another. Moreover, it will be appreciated that such a development effort might be complex and time-consuming, but would nevertheless be a routine undertaking of engineering for those of ordinary skill in the art having the benefit of this disclosure.

In the interest of brevity, the term “shirt” refers generally to any torso outer covering, such as a shirt, blouse, tunic, the upper portion of a one-piece coverall (commonly referred to as a “onesy”), jacket, or equivalent clothing. A shirt is defined to have at least a front and a back.

Applicant provides a magnetic flip operable bib include a chest cover having an absorbent layer sandwiched between first and second outer layers, and at least one magnet embedded attached between said first and second outer layers, and a tab extending from said chest cover, said tab including at least one magnet embedded within said tab, wherein said at least one chest cover magnet couples with said at least one tab magnet when said tag is folded over the front of a shirt. A bib wherein at least one of said outer layers is made from a waterproof wipe off material. A bib wherein said outer layer made from a waterproof wipe off layer includes a catch pocket. A bib wherein at least one of said outer layers is made from a cloth material. A bib wherein said tab has a length at least one half the diameter of said chest cover, said tab includes first and second magnets placed spaced apart along the length of the tab, and said chest cover includes third and fourth magnets placed spaced apart in said chest cover corresponding to said first and second magnets respectively. A bib includes a chest cover having an absorbent layer sandwiched between first and second outer layers and having a tab extending therefrom, a first magnet embedded in said tab, and a second magnet embedded in said chest cover, wherein, said bib is connectable to a shirt by placing said shirt between said first and second opposing magnets. A bib includes a chest cover, said chest cover including first and second outer layers, an absorbent layer sandwiched between said first and second outer layers, and first and second spaced-apart magnets embedded in said chest cover and disposed lengthwise along said chest cover, an elongated tab extending from said chest cover, said tab having a length at least half the diameter of said chest cover, said tab further including third and fourth magnets spaced apart from each other and corresponding to said first and second chest cover magnets, wherein said first and second magnets align with and magnetically couple to said third and fourth magnets when said bib is attached over a shirt front. A bib sized for an infant. A bib sized for a toddler. A bib sized for an adult.

As shown in FIG. 1, an embodiment of a magnet flip operable bib 10 is provided, having a tab 16, a chest covering 18, and opposing first and second magnets 20, 22, respectively.

Referring to FIG. 2, a second embodiment of a magnetic flip operable bib 100 is provided, having a tab 102, a chest covering 108, the chest covering having a catch pocket 114, and opposing first and second magnets, 110, 112, respectively.

Referring to FIGS. 3, 4, and 5, a preferred, third embodiment of a magnetic flip operable bib 200, is provided, having an elongated tab 204, a chest covering 202, and first and second magnets, 210, 212 in the tab 204, opposing third and fourth magnets 214, 216 in the chest covering 202. As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, elongated tab 204 folds over a collar C with the chest covering 202 on the front of the outer covering with the tab 204 on the inside of the covering, and first and second magnets, 210, 212, magnetically attach through the collar C to second and third magnets, 214, 216, bringing the bib flush against the outer covering of the user. Preferably, the tab 204 folds over at the point which it meets the chest covering 202.

Preferably, inside of chest covering, reference number 206 in the third embodiment, is cloth or other soft fabric while outside of chest covering, reference number 208 in the third embodiment, is an easy wipe surface such as suede leather. Preferably the chest covering and tab is made as a triple layer with the outside, 208 in the third embodiment, an easy wipe surface such as suede leather, and the inside 206 in the third embodiment, a cloth, sandwiching an absorbent layer (not shown). Absorbent layer can be rubberized flannel, which absorbs but does not soak through, or other suitable absorbent material known to those of skill in the art.

The magnets are rare earth magnets because of the pull force as well as their healing properties. The magnets are sown into place, preferably in a stitched pouch created by sandwiching the magnets between the absorbent middle layer and the outside covering. The magnets are sewn into place with their polarity oriented such that opposing magnets attract rather than repulse. Preferably, the magnets are approximately 2000 gauss and rubber or plastic encased.

Those skilled in the art will recognize that numerous modifications and changes may be made to the preferred embodiment without departing from the scope of the claimed invention. It will, of course, be understood that modifications of the invention, in its various aspects, will be apparent to those skilled in the art, some being apparent only after study, others being matters of routine mechanical, chemical and electronic design. No single feature, function or property of the preferred embodiment is essential. Other embodiments are possible, their specific designs depending upon the particular application. As such, the scope of the invention should not be limited by the particular embodiments herein described but should be defined only by the appended claims and equivalents thereof.
