BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to an illuminating device, and more particularly to a decorative night light device.

2. Description of Related Arts

The conventional night light consists of an electrical socket which is integrated with a plug to be inserted into an electrical wall outlet, a low-wattage bulb being held in the socket which also supports a small shade. A night light of this type which provides low-level illumination, is purely utilitarian in function and appearance, and it makes no useful or decorative contribution to the room apart from low-level illumination.

Under some circumstance, such as in a room or passageway, a night light device is usually used. For example, a bedroom, in considering the sleeping conditions of a room, one must not only seek to minimize noise and other disturbances, but one must also arrange for the proper degree of lighting and take steps to ensure a pleasing atmosphere. A totally dark room is not the ideal environment for sleeping, for it may be psychologically depressing to the occupant. Moreover, should the sleeper awaken and then move about the dark room, he may collide with furniture and other articles therein. Where the sleeping room is a child's nursery, a minimum degree of light is desirable. Young children are often fearful of complete darkness; and should a parent wish to check on the sleeping child without turning on the room light, a low-level night light which is already “on” is useful for this purpose.

Besides, the use of light bulbs to illuminate a picture slide is commonplace, for all commercial slide projectors include a light bulb to supply the required light.

But it has not heretofore been known to combine a low-level night light with a picture slide to provide illumination in a decorative form to render the atmosphere of the place being illuminated more pleasing.

The supporting frame 10 defines a hollow cavity 14 for storing an object 70, such as a photograph, and at least one peripheral side edge 141 of the hollow cavity 14, and an illumination window 15 formed on a front surface 101 of the supporting frame 10 to communicate the hollow cavity 14 with an exterior of the supporting frame 10.

On the other hand, the night light arrangement comprises a light sensor 30 and a plurality of illuminators 22. The light sensor 30 is provided on the supporting frame 10 and exposed to an ambient environment in which the supporting frame 10 is located for detecting a brightness of the ambient environment.

The plurality of illuminators 22 is provided on the peripheral side edge 141 of the hollow cavity 14 to electrically connect with the light sensor 30, in such a manner that when the light sensor 30 detects that the brightness of the ambient environment to be under a predetermined threshold brightness, the light sensor 30 is arranged to activate the illuminators 22 to generate illumination from the peripheral side edge 141 so as to provide night light illumination to the ambient environment while simultaneously providing sideward illumination to the object 70 for optimally displaying thereof, wherein when the light sensor 30 detects that the brightness of the ambient environment is above the predetermined threshold brightness, the light senor 30 is arranged to deactivate the illuminators 22 for stopping the night light illumination and simultaneously allowing display of the object 70 by natural light.

According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the supporting frame 10 comprises a hollow supporting frame body 11, having a front wall 112 defining the front surface 101 of the supporting frame 10, a rear wall 113, and a plurality of sidewalls 111 extending between the front wall 112 and the rear wall 113, and a frame boundary 16 provided within the hollow supporting frame body 11 to divide the hollow supporting body 11 into the hollow cavity 14 and a peripheral storage compartment 17 within and out of the frame boundary 16 respectively. The night light arrangement further comprises a light control circuit 21 supported within the peripheral storage compartment 17 to electrically connect with the illuminators 22 and the light sensor 30, in such a manner that when the light sensor 30 detects that the ambient brightness is below the predetermined threshold brightness, the light sensor 30 will send a signal to the light control circuit 21 for activating the illuminators 22. Vice Versa, when the light sensor 30 detects that the ambient brightness is above the predetermined threshold brightness, the light sensor 30 will transmit a corresponding signal to the light control circuit 21 for deactivating the illuminators 22 so as to allow the object 70 being displayed by natural brightness.

The supporting frame 10 is preferably embodied as having a quadrilateral cross section, such as a rectangular cross section, wherein the frame boundary 16 has a substantially identical cross section with less area than that of the supporting frame 10. In other words, the frame boundary 16 has a top boundary wall 161, a bottom boundary wall 162, and two side boundary walls 163 substantially aligned with but offset from the sidewalls 111 of the supporting frame 10 respectively. According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the illuminators 22 are spacedly provided along two of the sidewalls 111 of the supporting frame 10 for providing sideward illumination to the object 70 stored in the hollow cavity 14. Moreover, a height of the two side boundary walls 163 of the frame boundary 16 is substantially less than a height of the top and the bottom boundary wall 161, 162 to form two light channels 12 at the frame boundary 16 so that the illuminators 22 are visually communicated with the hollow cavity 14 of the supporting frame 10 via the light channels 12.

Accordingly, the night light arrangement further comprises a plurality of light diffusion members 26 mounted at the side boundary walls 163 of the frame boundary 16 at the light channels 12 respectively, wherein the illumination of the illuminators 22 are arranged to reach the hollow cavity 14 via the light diffusion members 26 such that the object 70 can be evenly and optimally illuminated by the illuminators 22 while the diffused light can also be optimally be utilized as a night light. It is important to point out at this stage that when the nigh light is also utilized for evenly and optimally displaying the object 70 within the hollow cavity 14, user is able to easily and promptly identify the source of night light because of his or her familiarity with the object 70 displayed within the supporting frame 10. Moreover, a common disadvantage of conventional night light is that the area and intensity of illumination is usually not good enough for a user to recognize any significant light source in a dark environment. This may perhaps be attributed to the fact that too bright a night light will actually interfere with user's sleep, yet too dim a night light would severely curtail the purpose of getting a night light in the first place.

In order to provide electrical power to the illuminators 22, the supporting frame 10 further has a battery compartment 19 formed in the peripheral storage compartment 17 (preferably underneath the bottom boundary wall 162) for receiving a plurality of battery units 191 within the battery compartment 19 to electrically connect with the light control circuit 21, which is mounted at the corresponding corner portion of the peripheral storage compartment 17. It is worth mentioning that the battery units 191 can be embodied as rechargeable batteries or regular alkaline dry cells. The light control circuit 21 can also be electrically connected to an external power source, such as an AC power source, via a conventional power cord and a power plug.

The supporting frame 10 further comprises a plurality of wall connectors 18 spacedly provided on the rear wall 113 of the supporting frame 10 for connecting the decorative night light onto an external object, such as a wall. More specifically, the wall connectors 18 can be embodied as a plurality of hoop fasteners or loop fasteners 181 so that the supporting frame 10 may be able to be attached onto corresponding loop fasteners 181 or hoop fasteners 181 provided on a wall. As an alternative, the wall connectors 18 may also be embodied as a plurality of connecting holes 182 indently formed on the rear wall 113 of the supporting frame 10 for allowing the supporting frame to be hanged on the wall through a hanging pin provided on the wall.

The decorative night light further comprises a night light stand arrangement 60 provided on the rear wall 113 of the supporting frame 10 for allowing the supporting frame 10 to stand on a flat surface. According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the night light stand arrangement 60 contains a plurality of standing slots 61 spacedly formed on the rear wall 113 of the supporting frame, and a supporting stand 62 detachably engaged into the standing slots 61 in such a manner that when the supporting stand 62 is engaged with the standing slots 61, the supporting frame 10 is allowed to be inclinedly supported by the supporting stand 62 so that the object 70 can be displayed on a flat surface (FIG. 16A and FIG. 16B). More specifically, the supporting stand 62 comprises a standing panel 621 and a plurality of engaging members 622 inclinedly extended from the standing panel 621 and is arranged to engage with the standing slots 61, so that the supporting frame 10 is capable of standing on the flat surface through the supporting stand 62.
