CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

The present application is related to and claims priority from prior provisional application Ser. No. 60/498,965, filed Aug. 30, 2003, entitled “FOREHEAD JEWELRY”, the contents of which are incorporated herein by this reference and are not admitted to be prior art with respect to the present invention by the mention in this cross-reference section.

BACKGROUND

This invention relates to providing a system for forehead adornment. More particularly, this invention relates to forehead adornment that does not encumber the wearer's choice of hairstyles and provides attachment that is hidden from the view of observers.

Typically, men and women have found ways to add adornment to their bodies or clothing. Most often, a wearer of such adornment attempts to wear the adornment with comfort, style, and, preferably, a removable connection to either the body or clothing.

Attachment of a forehead adornment to a wearer presents several problems. For example, the forehead is not an even surface and, therefore, managing situating an adornment comfortably along the forehead is a problem. Further, in order to hold an adornment in place along the forehead, a wearer might select from multiple attachment methods such as, for example, adhesive, banding around the head or hanging from the hair. Adhesive is messy, may cause skin damage, and is subject to failure due to skin conditions such as sweat. Banding an adornment around the forehead is unattractive, may loosen during activity and would interfere with normal hairstyles.

Hanging an adornment from the hair would require use of specific elements that do not interfere with a wearer's hairstyle, are not objectionable to view, and hold up during activity.

OBJECTS AND FEATURES OF THE INVENTION

A primary object and feature of the present invention is to provide a system for forehead adornment that adorns the forehead.

It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide such a system that does not encumber the wearer's choice of hairstyles.

It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide such a system that provides adornment attachment that is hidden from the view of observers.

It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide such a system that is comfortable to wear.

It is a further object and feature of the present invention to provide such a system that provides for an almost unlimited variation in forehead adornment utilizing the system.

A further primary object and feature of the present invention is to provide such a system that is efficient, inexpensive, and handy. Other objects and features of this invention will become apparent with reference to the following descriptions.

Preferably, the forehead jewelry system comprises an adornment 104 (at least embodying herein at least one adornment adapted to adorn the at least one forehead portion) that is retained on the forehead 106 of the wearer 102 by attaching the adornment 104 to at least one hair-engaging member 108, preferably removable, as shown. Preferably, the adornment 104 is connected to the hair-engaging member 108 (at least embodying herein at least one removable holder adapted to removably hold to the head hair) by a connecting member 110, preferably a flexible connecting member, preferably being mostly transparent such that observers do not easily view the connecting member 110. Preferably, the connecting member 110 (at least embodying herein attachable with such at least one removable holder, at least one support portion adapted to support, at least partially, such at least one adornment) flexibly suspends the adornment 104 along the forehead 106 (at least embodying herein wherein such at least one adornment may be held on the at least one forehead portion by such at least one support portion), as shown.

Preferably, the hair-engaging member 108 attaches by a direct coupling to hair 112 on the head 114 of the wearer 102, so that the adornment 104 can be placed from the top 116 of head 114 down onto a portion of the forehead 106 or across the forehead 106, as shown.

Preferably, a plurality of adornments 104 can be utilized with the forehead adornment system so that most any wearer regardless of hairstyle, culture, or hair type will be accentuated. Preferably, the forehead adornment system provides an adornment system for decorating the forehead 106 without unusual encumbering of the wearer 102 or the wearer's hairstyle.

FIG. 2 also shows a preferred method of using the forehead adornment system, wherein a user preferably: positions adornment 104 about the forehead 106; places a first hair-engaging member 108 under a second portion 113a of hair 112 and into a first portion 113b of hair 112 along the top 116 of the head 114; thereby placing adornment 104 closely adjacent the forehead 106 and concealing first hair-engaging member 108, as shown (at least embodying herein positioning such at least one scented adornment on the forehead; and placing such at least one first removable holder into such first portion of the head hair along a user's head; wherein such at least one scented adornment is held on the at least one forehead portion by such at least one first removable holder; and at least embodying herein the step of concealing such at least one first removable holder under at least one second portion of hair, in use). Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those of ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, such as user preference, advances in technology, intended use, etc., other steps, such as placing the holder without concealing it, placing multiple holders, etc., may suffice.

FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of Detail 3 of FIG. 1. FIG. 4 shows a front view, partially in section, of the embodiment of FIG. 1. Preferably, in embodiment 100, the hair-engaging member 108 comprises a single hair comb 120, preferably comprising closely spaced or touching “comb teeth”, to grab the hair 112 and assist attachment of the hair-engaging member 108 to the hair 112, preferably, removable attachment to the hair 112, as shown, (for example, Good Hair Days 1 and {fraction (3/8)} inch shell tuck 7-teeth hair comb #2202 FB shell for red or brown hair, or #2202 Crystal 1 and {fraction (1/2)} inch Crystal tuck 8-teeth comb for blond hair, or #40074 black 1 and {fraction (1/2)} inch 8-teeth grip-tooth for black hair). Other embodiments described herein provide more than a single hair-engaging member 108.

Preferably, placement by the wearer 102 of the hair-engaging member 108, in combination with the length of the connecting member 110 and the adornment 104, provides the wearer with multiple possible placement positions for the adornment 104 adjacent the forehead 106, as shown. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as user preference, placement preference, hairstyle, economic considerations, etc., other hair-engaging members, such as adhesive, hair snaps, wire coils, headbands (of the semi-rigid type that go over the top of the head), elastic bands, ribbons, etc., may suffice.

Preferably, the forehead adornment system comprises at least one fragrance element 122, preferably one or more fragrance beads 124, preferably fragrance beads made of fabric, as shown (at least embodying herein wherein such at least one adornment comprises at least one fragrance element adapted to provide at least one fragrance). Preferably, embodiment 100 utilizes fragrance beads 124, preferably fragrance beads made of fabric 126 (at least embodying herein wherein such at least one scented bead comprises at least one scented textile bead) such as, for example, yarn, cotton of a colored fabric, etc., preferably twisted together, preferably held and supported by wire 130 (or wire work encasing the fragrance bead 124, which preferably prevents fragrance bead 124 from being in contact with the wearer's skin, where it may cause irritation) (at least embodying herein wherein such at least one scented bead comprises at least one metal wire), as shown. Preferably, the fragrance bead 124 comprises at least one fragrant essential oil or perfume, preferably applied by the wearer by infusing the fabric with at least one fragrance of the wearer's choice. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as user preference, retailer preference, economic considerations, etc., other methods and manner of applying the fragrance, such as fragrance added by the manufacturer, bead materials other than fabric (such as, for example, glass, porcelain, flower-petal beads, wood, etc.) etc., may suffice.

Preferably, as described above, the connecting member 110 comprises a translucent flexible monofilament 118 (at least embodying herein wherein at least one of such at least one first and such at least one second flexible support portions comprises at least one translucent material) such as, for example, a thin nylon line (for example, 12-pound transparent mono-filament nylon line), preferably having a finished length allowing for connecting between the hair comb 120 and adornment 104, by tying or knotting, of preferably between about 5 inches and about 6 inches for an adult head, preferably less for children's heads. Upon reading the teachings of this specification, those with ordinary skill in the art will now understand that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as economic considerations, user preference, filament strength, etc., other connecting members and connecting member dimensions, such as multi-filament, non-transparent, wider, shorter, longer, etc., may suffice.

Preferably, the adornment 104 comprises at least one coupler 132, preferably at least one simple loop 134, preferably attached to the adornment 104 in such manner as to suspend the adornment 104 when coupled to the connecting member 110, as shown. For example, FIG. 4 illustrates multiple loops 134 connected together by the single coupler 132, which is also a loop 134, as shown.
