[0001] The present invention relates to a covering for a toilet and, in particular, a toilet seat lid.
[0002] Coverings for toilet seats lids and tanks have been known in the industry for some time. They are generally decorative fabric covers which are placed over the toilet seat, lid or tank and held in place by elastic bands.
[0003] Presently, coverings for toilet seat lids cover only the upper side of the seat lid, leaving the elastic bands and the underside of the seat exposed when it is raised. As a result, the toilet seat lid has a pleasant decorative appearance when closed, but not when it is in the raised position.
[0004] The present invention relates to an alternative form of covering for a toilet seat lid.
[0005] According to the present invention there is provided a covering for a toilet seat lid, which includes a body in the form of a pocket made of fabric having an opening. The pocket is adapted to conform to contours of a toilet seat lid and encapsulate all but a hinge of a toilet seat lid when the pocket is positioned over the toilet seat lid with the hinge positioned in the opening.
[0006] The toilet seat lid covering, as described above, provides an aesthetically pleasing decorative affect to the toilet seat, whether the toilet seat is up or down. There are various ways in which the toilet seat cover can be fabricated to fit a toilet seat lid. Although zippers or other fasteners may be used, it is preferred that a stretch fabric be used to form the pocket. This enables the pocket to stretch and elastically conform to the contours of the toilet seat lid.
[0007] Although beneficial results may be obtained with the use of the toilet seat cover, even more beneficial results when a second body in the form of a sleeve made of stretch fabric is positioned on the toilet tank. The sleeve elastically conform to contours of a toilet tank and surrounds the toilet tank when the sleeve is stretched over the toilet tank. This enables the decorative look between the toilet seat lid and toilet tank to be co-ordinated.
[0008] Although beneficial results may be obtained with the use by covering the toilet seat lid and the toilet seat tank, even more beneficial results can be obtained if the toilet tank lid is also co-ordinated with the toilet seat lid and toilet tank. A third body in the form of an enclosure made of stretch fabric having an overlapping slotted opening is provided. The enclosure is adapted to elastically conform to contours of a toilet tank lid and completely encapsulate the toilet tank lid when the enclosure is stretched over the toilet tank lid.
[0009] These and other features of the invention will become more apparent from the following description in which reference is made to the appended drawings, the drawings are for the purpose of illustration only and are not intended to in any way limit the scope of the invention to the particular embodiment or embodiments shown, wherein:

[0030] Although the preferred embodiment of toilet seat lid cover uses stretch fabric, it will be appreciated that one could make a toilet seat lid cover of like appearance using fabric that does not stretch which is pieced together with hidden fasteners.
[0031] In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be one and only one of the elements.
[0032] It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that modifications may be made to the illustrated embodiment without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter defined in the claims.
