Claims:

What is claimed is:



1. A sponge holding block of a sponge mop, said sponge holding block being made of aluminium by extrusion and having a main connection plate and two side plates extending downward from two sides of said main connection plate, said main connection plate provided with a plurality of connection through holes; wherein said main connection plate is provided with a protruded portion extending from one end thereof toward other end thereof; wherein said connection through holes penetrate said main connection plate.

2. The sponge holding block as defined in claim 1, wherein said protruded portion is extended from the underside of said main connection plate.

3. The sponge holding block as defined in claim 1, wherein said protruded portion is extended upward from the top of said main connection plate.

4. The sponge holding block as defined in claim 1, wherein said connection holes have a hold diameter smaller than a width of said protruded portion.

5. The sponge holding block as defined in claim 1, wherein said connection holes have a hole diameter greater than a width of said protruded portion.

Description:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates generally to a mop, and more particularly to a sponge holding block of the mop.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] As shown in FIG. 1, a sponge mop of the prior art has a holding block 1 which is fastened with a connection rod 2 and is provided with a space for accommodating a sponge 3. The sponge 3 is squeezed by two rollers 5 when the holding block 1 is actuated by a pull handle 4.

[0003] As shown in FIGS. 2-7, the holding block 1 is made of an iron plate 10, which is formed into an inverted U-shaped plate body 11 by punching, as shown in FIGS. 2-3. The plate body 11 is provided with a plurality of holes 12 by punching, as shown in FIG. 4. The holes 12 are provided in the hole edge with a lug 13, as shown in FIG. 5. The lug 13 is provided with an inner thread 14 for connecting the connection rod 2 by screws. The plate body 11 is formed into the holding block 1, as shown in FIG. 7.

[0004] The holding block 1 is susceptible to rust to cause separation of the holding block 1 from the connection rod 2. The formation of the lug 13 is time-consuming. In short, the production of the holding block 1 is not cost-effective.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a sponge mop with a sponge holding block which is durable and cost-effective.

[0006] The sponge holding block of the present invention is made of aluminium by extrusion and is formed of a main connection plate and two side plates extending from two sides of the main connection plate. The main connection plate is provided with a plurality of connection through holes, which penetrate the protruded portion of the main connection plate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0013] As shown in FIG. 8, a sponge holding block 20 embodied in the present invention is made of aluminium by extrusion and is of an inverted U-shaped plate body comprising a main connection plate 21 and two side plates 22 extending downward from two sides thereof. A receiving space 23 is formed between the main connection plate 21 and the two side plates 22. The main connection plate 21 is provided with a plurality of connection holes 24. The receiving space 23 is to accommodate a sponge (not shown in the drawing). The two side plates 22 are provided with a hooked portion 25 for retaining the sponge.

[0014] The sponge holding block 20 of the present invention is characterized by the main connection plate 21 which is provided in the center of the underside thereof with a protruded portion 26. The connection holes 24 penetrate the protruded portion 26 and have a sufficient length to accommodate securely the fastening screws, without the use of the lugs of the prior art holding block. The connection holes 24 are provided with inner threads engageable with the screws.

[0015] The sponge holding block 20 is integrally made of aluminium by extrusion without consuming an excessive amount of material. The main connection plate 21 is provided with the protruded portion 26 opposite in location to the connection holes 24. As a result, the sponge holding block 20 of the present invention is cost-effective and durable.

[0016] The shape and the direction in which the protruded portion 26 is extended may be embodied in other forms, as shown in FIG. 10 in which the protruded portion 27 extends upward from the top of the main connection plate 21, or as shown in FIG. 11 in which the protruded portion 28 is formed in the underside of the main connection plate 21 as an arcuate protruded strip having a width smaller than the hole diameter of the connection holes 24.
