Description:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a putty knife handle, especially a tight structure of the putty knife handle, whose blade and handle, with high strength and ease of holding, can be rapidly connected. Also inside the handle's housing is supporting structure that not only saves more materials and radiates heat more rapidly, but also has excellent strength as well. All these contribute to the quality of the present invention as an excellent knife product.

[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Art

[0004] The putty knife is used for removal of residual paint on the wall in construction projects. Since bricklayers use it quite often with relatively great force, the structure between the blade and the handle should be specially designed. The structure of a common putty knife is shown on FIG. 9, namely the handle of the blade (60) is clamped by the upper and lower clamping pieces facing each other and fixed with a rivet (52) through the upper clamping piece (50), the blade (60) and the lower clamping piece (51). However, such kind of structure has the following disadvantages:

[0005] 1. Since the rivet of the above-mentioned structure goes loose easily after being used for a long time because the clamping force is mainly at the rivet and it is not a surface contact, the lateral thrust will result in looseness. This is the main disadvantage.

[0006] 2. Since this kind of upper and lower clamping pieces are mostly made of wood with higher strength, the long term exertions on the knife will result in holding discomfort and numbness of the hand. This is another disadvantage.

[0007] There is another commonly used structure shown in FIG. 8. The hard plastic handle (70) is jointed with the base of the blade (61) directly during the injection to get a structure with a firmly fixed handle. However, it also has disadvantages in implementation:

[0008] 1. The handle has to have a certain thickness for easy holding, but this thickness results in longer time for cooling after it has jointed with the blade, which in turn leads to longer manufacturing time and thus raise the cost.

[0009] 2. Also the knife handle is made completely of hard plastics with great hardness. The problem of holding discomfort remains unsolved.

[0010] 3. Furthermore, the knife handle is completely made of hard plastics with greater consumption of materials. There is greater waste, which shows more conspicuously in mass production. This is another disadvantage.

[0011] 4. The knife has a polished surface. When being placed into the mold to be joined with the hard plastics, the knife tends to have inevitable scratches by the contact with the mold.

[0012] 5. To increase production and cool the molds more rapidly, water is used for cooling. Thus the knife is immersed in water completely until medium and high temperatures and then being put into cold water so that it is very easy to get oxidized and rusty. This is another disadvantage.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0013] Therefore, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a putty knife handle, which is made up of a corresponding upper lid and a lower base. Both of them form a housing with location holes for insertion pieces and columnar tubes for insertion posts coupled and fixed with each other. The upper lid and lower base are tightly fixed, which enables the knife handle and the blade to be firmly secured to avoid loosening. The projecting piece and projecting piece seat are disposed at the front end of upper lid and lower base respectively. A slot is mounted inside and penetrating through the lower base, parallel to the central axis thereof. Relative to the body of the lower base, U-shaped frames are arranged behind the slot for enabling the clamping end of the blade to be implanted into the two U-shaped frames after being inserted through the slots to make it fixed firmly.

[0014] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a putty knife handle that is covered with a layer of rubber coating in order to fill the groove between embossed parts for holding easily and comfortably.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0025] Refer to the FIG. 1 and FIG. 2. The front end of the blade (10) of the putty knife may take different forms as shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 4 while the handle is tapered to form the clamping end (11). There is at least one elongated hole (13) disposed in the center of the clamping end (11) and the two lateral sides of the clamping end are indented edges (12).

[0026] With reference to FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, a handle of the invention mainly includes the upper lid (20) and the lower base (30), both of which corresponds to each other longitudinally and have flange strip (25)(38) around the inner side respectively. A housing of handle is formed by the combination of the upper lid (20) and the lower base (30). Insertion posts (24) and columnar tubes (36) are arranged at the proper positions for each other's insertion and fixation.

[0027] The projecting piece (21) mounted on the upper lid (20) and the projecting seat (31) mounted on the lower base (30) are corresponding to each other. Location holes (22) and insertion pieces (32) are arranged at the projecting piece (21) and projecting seat (31) respectively, corresponding to each other. Thus these corresponding components can be inserted and fixed with each other firmly when they are assembled together.

[0028] Please refer to FIG. 2, FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, the thickness of the projecting seat (31) of the lower base (30) is fairly large and a slot with a certain width is mounted at the front end thereof along and through the longitudinal axle. This slot (33) can also be a flared opening. On the other end of the slot (33) of the lower base (30), two U-shaped frames (34) are arranged against each other. Between the two U-shaped frames (34), there is a barbed tenon (35). After the clamping end (11) of the blade (10) being inserted into and forced out of the slot (33), the two lateral sides of the blade (10) are inserted into the grooves of the two corresponding U-shaped frames respectively (34) for fixation, while the elongated hole (13) on the clamping end (11) of the blade (10) is exactly jointed with the barbed tenon (35) and the indented edge (12) is also clipped with the inner wall of the slot (33).

[0029] Please refer to FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, a depression bar (26) which can give the clamping end (11) of the blade (10) an additional clamping pressure when engaging occurs is arranged behind the projecting piece (21) on the upper lid (20), corresponding to the center of the two U-shaped frames (34) of the lower base (30).

[0030] Please also refer to FIG. 1 and FIG. 6, projecting members (23)(37) are disposed on the outer surface of the upper lid (20) and the lower base (30) respectively. Ending at the top of the projecting members (23)(37) of the handle's surface, the surface of the handle is coated with a layer of rubber (40) for easy holding. And the flange strips (25)(38) around the outer edge of the upper lid (20) and the lower base (30) is directly pressed or through melting with each other for thorough sealing. Applying the rubber coating (40) around the outside of the handle as described above can prevent the rubber coating (40) from getting into the housing to obtain a complete knife structure. Please refer to FIG. 2 and FIG. 4 again, a horizontal projecting part (27) and horizontal recessing part (39) are arranged below the projecting piece (21) on the upper lid (20) and the projecting seat (31) on the lower base (30) respectively. When the upper lid (20) and the lower base (30) are pressed against each other firmly as shown in FIG. 7, the combination of the horizontal projecting part (27) and horizontal recessing part (39) can prevent sliding.

[0031] The present invention has following advantages:

[0032] 1. By the blade being inserted into the two corresponding U-shaped frames, indented edge thereof clipping with the slot, the clamping end thereof jointed with the barbed tenon, and the pressing of the depression bar, the blade and the handle are fixed with each other firmly.

[0033] 2. To assemble the above-mentioned structure, it is only necessary to press the blade into the hole. The clipping of the blade with the slot and the U-shaped frame and locating of the barbed tenon are all completed in an instant, which facilitates the assembly.

[0034] 3. Since the upper lid and the lower base form the housing, its heat forming and cooling are relatively faster. Also in the inside thereof are strong supporting parts. Therefore, it also has good strength as well.

[0035] 4. The projecting members outside the surface of the product are coated with a layer of rubber coating for comfortable holding. And the flange strips can be melt and pressed with each other for complete sealing so that the rubber coating cannot flow into the inside of the housing thus obtaining a integrated knife structure.

[0036] 5. Inside the projecting seat on the lower base, there is a slot for insertion of the blade. After the clamping end of the blade being inserted into the slot, it is wrapped by the surrounding walls, which makes the blade and the lower base combine with each other more tightly to avoid loosening.

[0037] 6. On the upper lid and lower base, there are horizontal projecting part and horizontal recessing part arranged correspondingly so as to avoid the sliding.
