Title:
MAGNETIC COUNTER
United States Patent 3461277

Abstract:
1,115,149. Counters. VEEDER INDUSTRIES Inc. 22 Feb., 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 8383/67. Heading G4D. [Also in Division H1] In an electromagnetically-operated counter an escapement 32 and the clapper 62 are subjected to opposite spring pressures. The clapper carries an arm 74 subjected. to an adjustable pull by spring 78. Normally the clapper pushes against one end 86 of a two-pawled actuator 32 subjected to the counter-clockwise force of a spring 89. When the clapper is attracted by the magnet 44 the spring 89 rocks the actuator 32 so that the lower pawl advances star wheel 30 half a step. Release of the magnet allows spring 78 to rock the clapper and therefore the actuator in the opposite direction to advance the star wheel a further half-step. The magnet and clapper may be mounted on vibration-reducing plastics and a piece of paper 81 prevents magnetic sticking.
