Dec. 19, 1932, No. 36005. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1931. [Class 40 (v).] A vapour-filled discharge tube 13 is employed to operate a relay 9 which controls the alternate connection of a telephone set 8 to a high-frequency transmitter 1 and receiver 2. The tube 13 breaks down on the receipt of signals, and the potential across a resistance 21 and the anode circuit so reduces the biassing voltage on the grid of a second vapour-filled tube 14 that during the positive half-cycle of a generator 18 the tube 14 also breaks down and by reducing the anode current causes tube 13 to restore to inoperative condition. During the negative half-cycle of generator 18 tube 14 also becomes inoperative and tube 13 will break down again if signals are still being received. Resistances 20, 24 ensure that the tube 13 will break down on the receipt of signals even when the anode voltage is reduced by the operation of tube 14.
