Historically lounge chairs have featured designs that allow the end user to be seated or lying in varying capacities. Prior designs also utilize a wide array of materials and styles in the manufacturing process to create the finished product. The Face-Saver Sun Cot emerges with its improvements over previous concepts, to offer the end user enhance comfort as well as increasing the product's overall functionality.
In comparison, tables and chairs used by the Therapeutic Massage Industry, provide a comfortable resting place for the users face when positioned in a facedown manner. This is usually accomplished by implementing a removable face cradle attached at one end of the Massage table. Massage tables in and of themselves are rather bulky and heavy, and do not lend themselves easily for use in an outdoor recreational environment. In addition the user must keep track of the large face cradle, as it is not incorporated to be a permanent part of the table. Massage Chairs however do offer an attached face cradle, but only give the user access to a seated or kneeling position. They do not offer the user any access to a lying position either face up or facedown.
With the outdoor lounge chair industry, providing a more comfortable facedown position has yet to be addressed. With current products, the user must keep their head cocked in either one direction or the other while lying on their stomach.
The Face-Saver Sun Cot removes this problem by making a permanent hole available for resting the face. This eliminates the need to twist one's head from side to side and also keep track of a removable face cradle as previously described. The user is given access to a lounge chair that will provide comfortable positioning whether lying on their back or stomach. The Face-Saver Sun Cot also gives the user the ability to cover the hole—via a detachable panel—when not in use. The enclosed drawing illustrates these concepts and their functionality.
The concept of the Face Saver Sun Cot is an enhancement to existing outdoor furniture. The Face-Saver idea itself can be implemented and incorporated into various lounging products developed today by manufacturers. The basic enhancement that is being pursued for Non-Provisional Patent status is the implementation of the Face-hole and the removable material covering the hole.
The face-hole, being part of the backrest, gives the user a more comfortable experience and improved spinal alignment while lying on their stomach with their face in the hole cavity.
The detachable hole cover is utilized to close off the hole when the user is resting on their back.
The enclosed drawing of the Face-Saver Sun Cot depicts the various aspects of the proposed improvements.
The drawing in FIG. # 1 shows the outline of a basic folding cot with an adjustable backrest. Also depicted in FIG. #1 is the opening of the Face-Hole as part of the backrest. An aluminum frame is referenced in the drawing (FIG. #1) regarding the material used in producing the frame, however replication is not limited to this material in the manufacturing process, nor is the absolute need for an adjustable backrest necessary to utilized the Face-Saver hole and cover panel. The Face-Saver improvement can also be implemented on flat or non-adjustable chairs as well.

The design of the Face-Saver Sun Cot calls for fabric, metal, plastic, wood, or materials yet known to be used in the manufacturing process.
The Face-Saver Sun Cot consists of an elongated, rectangular base with a set of support legs attached to the rectangular frame and an adjustable backrest section. The Face-Saver Sun Cot also utilizes two adjustable backrest supports with slots that lock into pins on the frame as an adjustment bar. A fabric cot made of cotton, canvas, nylon, plastic, or materials yet known is attached to the frame providing a place for the sunbather to place their body. The Face-Saver Sun Cot specifically utilizes an opening for the face in the form of a circular hole placed in the backrest portion of the chair. The hole accommodates a sunbather's face while lying in the facedown position. The edge around the face hole is padded or utilizes thicker materials to create cushioning comfort. A rectangular and detachable hole cover, created from previously outlined materials, is used to cover the hole when the sunbather is in the face-up position. The ends of the panel are held in position with the use of metal snaps, plastic hook-and-loop attachments, Velcro strips or other suitable materials known or unknown.
To use the Face-Saver Sun Cot, a sunbather will set up the chair, adjust the backrest to the desired position, and lie down on the chair. When they want to, they will turn over, adjust the backrest, remove hole cover, and use the hole in the backrest to rest the face. After use, the chair can be collapsed and stored.
