In this seventh edition of Health, Safety, and Nutrition for the Young Child, Lynn R. Marotz expands upon a successful text by including a CD with forms in Microsoft Word and PDF formats that can be used for in-class exercises by those teaching a course. This practical element will facilitate the opportunities an educator has to merge theory and research with practice.

Marotz has a background in nursing and has been the health and safety coordinator at Edna A. Hill Child Development Center at the University of Kansas for 30 years. She has published numerous books and contributed to several articles on childhood obesity and issues of health, safety, and nutrition.

A unique addition to this edition is the "Focus on Families" feature, which aims to support collaboration between families and educators. The New Food Pyramid is included, as well as Teacher Checklists for each chapter and recommended classroom activities that will reinforce content with meaningful lessons for children. Helpful Web resources and a listing of relevant children's books are included to support the practitioner.

With research showing a rise in childhood obesity, this text aims to support educators and parents in reversing this trend by discussing such topics as the interrelationship of health, safety, and nutrition; health assessment tools; management of injuries and acute illness; nutritional guidelines; nutritional needs at different age levels; and food safety. By guiding educators to improve nutritional practice, young children will develop important health style routines that will serve them as good lifelong habits.

Our current focus on content area instruction at all grade levels has prevented us from educating the whole child. This text will help educators by making them aware of the latest literature in the areas of health, safety, and nutrition.
