Abstract:
The present invention is a suppository (10) for use in an anal canal that comprises a shaft (2) having a first end (7) and a second end (8). A ring (3) is attached between the first end (7) and the second end (8) of the shaft (2). The shaft (2) is generally cylindrical between the first end (7) and the second end (8). The shaft (2) has a length of between 3cm and 6cm inclusive, and the diameter of the shaft (2) is between 2 mm and 8 mm inclusive. The ring (3) has a optimum diameter of no more than 2 times the diameter of the shaft (2), and the maximum diameter of the ring (3) is 12 mm. The minimum length of the wide section (4) of the ring (3) to either end of the shaft is 2 centimeters. All of those numerical figures are approximate.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. claim: 1 A suppository for use in an anal canal comprising: a shaft with a first end and a second end, said shaft being generally cylindrical and having a minimum length of approximately 3 centimeters and a diameter of approximately between.

2. millimeters and 6 millimeters inclusive; and a ring affixed on said shaft between said first end and said second end, said ring extending outwardly of said shaft and having a diameter of no more than 3 times a diameter of said shaft, said ring having a maximum diameter of 12mm.

3. 2 A suppository for use in an anal canal comprising: a shaft with a first end and a second end; and a ring affixed on said shaft between said first end and said second end, said ring having a wide section with a diameter of approximately between 4 millimeters and 12 millimeters, said shaft being generally cylindrical and having diameter approximately 1/3 to 2/3 of said wide section of said ring, said shaft having a minimum length, between said wide section of said ring and either end of said shaft, of approximately 1.5 centimeters, said shaft having a minimum length from said first end to said second end being 3 centimeters.

SUPPOSITORY FOR HEMORRHOID TREATMENT

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to hemorrhoid treatment device. More particularly, relates to a suppository for the treatment of hemorrhoids that is held by itself in the anal canal.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Most hemorrhoid suppositories have a bullet shape, and it is quite difficult for these bullet-shaped suppositories to stay within the anal canal after they are inserted. Additionally, these bullet-shaped suppositories tend to go upwardly in the rectum before the medication is directly applied to the internal hemorrhoid area.

[0003] In the prior art, there are several devices that can be held by itself within the anal canal. The principle of all of those devices are to stride the anal canal; for example, U.S. Patent No. 3,777,755 to Groves has huge bulbs at both end of the device, and U.S. Patent No. 5,861,000 of the present inventor, uses opposite taper surfaces toward the narrow section of the device to stride the anal canal. Those devices use friction of both upper and lower ends of the anal canal. There is no device invented before that stays by itself within the anal canal without striding the anal canal. [0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a suppository, which has the capability to be movab Iy retained within the anal canal without striding the anal canal. This suppository utilizes the self-cleaning function of the anal canal as explained in the following detailed explanation of the invention. The invention is related to size rather than physical shape of the suppository. No such device has been invented before.

[0005] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a suppository that is easy to use, easy to manufacture and relatively inexpensive.

[0006] These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a reading of the attached specification and appended claims.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] The present invention is a suppository for use in an anal canal that comprises a shaft having a first end and a second end. A ring is attached between the first end and the second end of the shaft. [0008] In the present invention, the shaft is generally cylindrical between the first end and the second end. In particular, the shaft has a length of between 3 cm and 6cm inclusive, and the diameter of the shaft is between 2 mm and 8 mm inclusive. The ring has a optimum diameter of no more than 2 times the diameter of the shaft, and the maximum diameter of the ring is 12 mm. The minimum length of the wide section of the ring to either end of the shaft is 2 centimeters. All of those numerical figures are approximate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0012] FIGUREl shows the suppository 10 of the present invention suitable for use in hemorrhoid treatment. The suppository 10 of the present invention has a shaft 2 with a first end 7 and a second end 8, and a ring 3 attached between the ends 7 and 8 of the shaft 2. The shaft 2 is generally cylindrical. The diameter of the shaft 2 is between 2 millimeters and 8 millimeters inclusive, and the length of the shaft is between 3.6 centimeters and 6 centimeters inclusive. The ring 3 extends outwardly of the shaft 2.

[0013] The ring 3 has a maximum diameter portion 4. This maximum portion 4 has a diameter of approximately less than 3 times the diameter of the shaft. Also, the maximum diameter is less than 12 millimeters. The width of the ring 3 between the end 5 and end 6 is no more than the diameter of the ring 3.

[0014] The minimum length from the wide section of the maximum diameter portion 4 of the ring 3 to either end of the shaft is approximately 2 centimeters, depending upon the length of the anal canal.

[0015] FIGURE 2 illustrates the suppository 10 of the present invention within the anal canal. The broken line 80 illustrates the entrance of the anus. Area 81 is the external sphincter that contains the external hemorrhoids. Broken line 82 is illustrative of the intermuscular groove. Area 83 illustrates the pecten. This pecten is a narrow passage section of the anal canal. Broken line 84 illustrates the dentate line. This dentate line is a slightly indented portion in the anal canal. [0016] Area 85 illustrates the internal hemorrhoid area. The broken line 86 indicates the upper edge of the internal hemorrhoid area. Area 87 is ampulla of the rectum. The anal canal is between inner muscular groove 83 and the upper edge 86 of the internal hemorrhoid area 85. [0017] In a typical human body, the internal hemorrhoidal area 85 will have a length of between 18 and 20 millimeters. The pecten area 83 will have a length of between 18 and 20 millimeters. The external sphincter area 81 will have a length of between 5 and 10 millimeters. The anal canal is between the intermuscular groove line 82 and the upper edge 86 of the internal hemorrhoid area.

Based on figures ,the length of the anal canal is typically between 3.6 centimeters and 40 millimeters inclusive.

[0018] As can be seen in FIGURE 2, the suppository 10 is inserted into the anal canal such that the wide section 4 of the ring 3 fits into the dentate line 84, the dentate line 84 is a slightly indented portion of the anal canal. This is a balanced position of the suppository 10 within the anal canal. The suppository 10 will stay around in this position because the involuntary evacuative rectal pressure and the lateral pressure of the anal canal to force out the device 10 are not applied on such a small-sized suppository 10. When the diameter of the shaft is less than approximately 1/6 of the length of the anal canal, involuntary lateral pressure of the rectal and the anal canal is not applied on the shaft. Thus, the peristaltic movement within the anal canal applies a downward force on the surface of the shaft to bring the shaft down to discharge from the anal canal, and at the same time, the peristaltic motion within the anal canal will apply an upward force to the ring 3 to bring the ring up toward the ampulla of the rectum. Additionally, the diameter of the shaft 2 is significantly small for its length, such that relative friction between the surface of the shaft 2 and the wall of the anal canal is significant for the capacity of the shaft 2. As such, the suppository 10 will movably stay, slightly go up and down in the position, until being pulled out manually.
