The present invention relates to a multi component controlled release system formed of solid hydrophobic nano-particles encapsulated within a moisture-sensitive micro-particle for the controlled release of cosmetic and pharmaceutical active agents in sanitary paper products. This system is useful to control the release of cosmetic and pharmaceutical active agents or countering malodorous compounds upon need and over an extended period of time, in the presence of body fluids. More particularly, the invention pertains to a controlled release system for sanitary paper products that consist of micro particles encapsulating nano particles prepared by a process comprising spray drying a composition of solid nano-particles.
