1. Device for locking a cover or plug (1) on a cassing or frame (2) constituting for instance the setting of a manhole in a roadway and of the type comprising a cam (4) pivotally or tiltingly mounted on the underside of the plug (1) and operable by a member (3) such as a screw (5) to allow the said cam to move into or below the frame (2), characterized in that the cam (4) is mounted in freely pivoting relationship on the underside of the plug (1) and the member or screw (5), fastened to the plug (1), acts upon one of the ends or first end (15) of the cam (4) through the medium of a spring (11) interposed between this first end and the member or screw (5).
