This invention relates to a device for the purpose increasing atomization efficiency of venturi vaporizors as used in internal combustion engines. More particularly the invention is an adaptation of the conventional venturi system having resonant chambers with openings in the high air velocity area of the venturi.

Claims:
Having described the invention I claim
1. An atomization device comprising in combination a venturi with at least one resonant chamber, said chamber connected into said venturi by means of an opening, said opening including means so constructed as to induce sufficient disturbance into an air stream flowing through said venturi as to result in resonance within said resonant chamber, said resonance to project a sonic wave into the area within said venturi.
Description:
Present technology includes electronic and electromechanical devices which are complex and therefore uneconomical. A general artical can be found in "Hot Rod Magazine" January 1974 page 43.
It is an object of this invention to provide a novel method of introducing a sonic wave into a high velocity air stream for the purpose of liquid atomization.
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood, reference is made to the accompanying drawing.
FIG. 1 is a side section view.
Referring to this FIGURE, 1 is a conventional carburator venturi section. The opening 2 leads to the adjustable resonant chamber 3, volume control provided by adjustment screw 4. Whistle lip 5 is used to provide the necessary disturbance to induce resonance in the resonant chambers.
Operation of the invention is as follows: As the air stream passes through the venturi, its velocity increases, this air stream than passes by the opening of the resonant chamber resulting in resonance within the resonant chamber. This resonance than causes projection of a sonic wave into the region of the air stream. Multiple chambers on one plane as shown in FIG. 1 or on different levels can be used to induce a standing wave into the venturi area and thereby further break up the vapor particles and improve atomization.
Construction of resonant chambers and the openings thereof are considered well known technique and can be found in most reference works in physics or whistle design.
Similar chambers can also be used in other areas of the fuel system such as openings below the intake valve of a combustion chamber or in the injection area of a fuel injection system. In most cases where a liquid is atomized using a venturi the device can be adopted. The invention sees possible application in venturi type air scrubbers for pollution control, farm spray units, fog generators etc.
Although a combustion fuel system is used above for demonstration it is to be understood the invention relates in general to liquid atomization with a modified venturi unit.
