Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The existence of the problem of attaching items such as a gun holster to a belt is illustrated by prior patents of which applicant is aware. For instance, the Kippen U.S. Pat. No. 3,565,303 attempts to solve the problem by an integral tongue which can be folded over the belt and then by another strap secured again to the holster while still another strap extends downwardly and through a slit in the tongue to fasten the attachment in position; Hendricks U.S. Pat. No. 3,642,184 utilizes two laterally spaced clamp arms which are fastened around the belt, holding the attachment in fixed position; Fink U.S. Pat. No. 2,049,293 and Hier U.S. Pat. No. 3,379,349, and the Bennet U.S. Pat. No. 2,731,179 provide a loop through which the belt can slide, but none are adapted to hold an article in adjustable position, or to use the pressure of the body on the belt to hold the fastening strips in place.
An object of the invention is to provide a quickly but firmly attachable base member to the belt of a person, to which base an article such as a gun holster or the like can be secured in adjustable position at a suitable angle, and which attachment does not require the use of any buttons, slits, or such fastening elements.
Another object of the invention is to provide a belt attachment in which a longitudinally flexible but stiff base has clamp members which can be fitted over the edge of the belt, and foldable straps which can engage the belt and can engage suitable extensions on the inside of the clamp members firmly for securing the attachment to the belt, utilizing the pressure of the body on the belt; and which provides for easy attachment to the belts of different widths.
Brief Description of the Drawings
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the attachment on the belt and indicating a holster to be mounted on the attachment.
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view, the section being on lines 2--2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view, the section being taken on lines 3--3 of FIG. 1.
Detailed Description
A flat longitudinally flexible elongated plate 1 has on it a pair of clamping members 2 turned over and spaced from the elongated plate 1 so as to form generally "U" shaped clips which fit over the upper edge of a belt 3. Each clip has a lateral extension 4 on its inner end which extensions 4 extend oppositely from each other and are parallel with the outer plate 1. Said clips or clamping members 2 and said extensions 4 being also longitudinally flexible to conform to the curvature of the belt. From the ends of the plate 1 extend a pair of foldable straps 6.
The plate 1 has an enlarged hub portion 7 thereon with a transverse hole 8 therethrough for suitable adjustable mounting of a supported item such as in the herein illustration, a gun holster 9. The same type of mounting can be utilized for support of a flashlight, a club, a canteen, a walkie-talkie or radio, or other usual items preferably of the type utilized by security personnel, and of the type which must be held in a convenient position for rapid usage.
A mounting disk 10 has a threaded bolt 11 thereon fitting through the hole 8 to be secured by a usual nut 12.
In operation the item to be mounted on the base is secured in place as heretofore described. Then the assembly is attached to the belt by placing the "U" shaped clamping members 2 over the top edge of the belt 3 and then by placed the straps 6 under the lower edge of the belt 3 and from the inside over the extensions 4 so that the ends of the belt are between the body of the wearer of the belt and the extensions 4. The straps 6 are pulled tight and are held in that position by the pressure of the belt around the body.
