Claims:
What I claim is
1. In combination,
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein the fastening means comprises a pair of zippers, one on each side of the mattress, whereby one side of said bed clothing may be utilized without disturbing the other side thereof.
3. The combination of claim 1 wherein the top sheet means includes a top sheet and a spread.
Description:
The invention includes novel and improved bedclothes which facilitate making up and remaking the bed and enhance the sleeper's comfort by retaining all portions of the bedclothes in proper position regardless of how much tossing and turning about the sleeper does, and still permit the sleeper to assume any position that may be comfortable and to shift positions freely.
More particularly the bedclothes, according to the invention, comprise a bottom sheet which substantially encloses a mattress are provided with one side or tape of a slide fastener, such as a "zipper" or the like. The top sheet whose sides and one end are draped down to overlie two sides and the foot end of the bottom sheet are provided with a cooperative slide fastener type matching the one secured, as aforesaid, to the bottom sheet.
The principal objects of the invention are:
To provide improved and simplified bedclothes combined in a manner which is simple in construction, can be readily laundered, and which will assure a child or a bed patient remaining properly covered during the night while at the same time permitting substantial freedom of movement thus assuring restful sleep.
To provide bed covering somewhat in the form of a sack which can be slipped into and made to envelope the mattress, an interconnected top sheet and blanket which will effectively prevent any possibility of a child or a bed patient become uncovered regardless of how restless he or she may become during the sleeping hours.
To provide bed covering of the character described in which the top portion including the bedspread, the top sheet and a blanket therebetween, if desired, may be adjustably opened and folded back to allow for changing the bedding and also to suit the needs of a child or a bed patient with respect to the amount of covering desired.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent, reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof and in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a bed made up with components of bedclothes made and assembled in accordance with my invention and with fragments broken away to illustrate internal and underlying parts, and
FIG. 2 is an inverted perspective view illustrating the manner in which a standard mattress, sleeping bag, pad of foam rubber, or the like is substantially enclosed by and releasably attached to the bottom sheet of the assembly.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing wherein like reference numerals designate like parts, numeral 1 indicates generally a mattress which may be of the conventional type or one made of foam rubber of suitable thickness, or a sleeping bag, or any other suitable padding.
A bottom sheet 2 overlies the top of the mattress, extends downwardly as at 3 and 4 along both sides of the mattress and as at 5 and 6 at both ends thereof, then inwardly as at 7 and 8 along its sides and as at 9 and 10 at both ends. The inner edges of these underlying portions of the bottom sheet are tubular in section to enclose a drawcord, elastic band or the like, as at 11 adapted to gather the opposing sides and ends of the underlying portions of the bottom sheet toward each other as illustrated and thereby releasably attach the assembly to the mattress.
A top sheet 12 overlies the top of the bottom sheet 2 with its sides 13 and 14 and one end 15 draped downwardly along the sides of the bottom sheet and across the said one end thereof. The interior sides and end of the top sheet 12 have a tape 16 secured thereto and provided with a track 17. The corresponding exterior sides and one end of the bottom sheet 2 are also provided with tape 18 having a companion track 19 for the track 17. Both tracks serve to accommodate at least one slide fastener 20.
A bedspread indicated generally at 21 having sides and one end substantially matching those of the top sheet 12 are permanently secured to the top sheet whereby the bedspread and the top sheet may be turned back simultaneously for convenient entry of a bed occupant. The head end of the bedspread and top sheet may be secured together as shown or be left unattached for inserting a blanket or additional bed covering if desired.
With particular reference to FIG. 1 it will be noted that the terminal or meeting ends of the tracks 17 and 19 at the foot end of the bed are provided with limit stops 25 for either slide fastener 20. This feature is advantageous when used on a double bed wherein a single occupant need only open his side of the bed clothing leaving the other side closed or otherwise intact.
