Claims:
I claim
1. A padlock locking device for opening a solid hinged unit from either side via a bore formed through the hinged unit, the hinged unit fully enclosing a gate opening, said locking device comprising
2. A padlock locking device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hinged unit is a solid door.
3. A padlock locking device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hinged unit is a solid gate.
Description:
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a padlock locking device. More particularly, the invention relates to a padlock locking device for opening a hinged unit from either side.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a padlock locking device of simple structure which is easy to install and operate and which permits a door, gate, hinged unit, sliding unit, or the like, to be opened from either side with facility, ease and convenience.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of an embodiment of the padlock locking device of the invention; and
FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the padlock locking device of FIG. 1.
In the FIGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The padlock locking device of the invention opens a hinged unit, sliding unit, mounted unit, gate, door, or the like, from either side via a bore 1 (FIGS. 1 and 2) through the unit, or the like. In FIG. 1, the unit is an outdoor fence gate 2. In FIG. 2, the unit is a hinged unit, sliding unit, gate, door, or the like, 3.
The padlock locking device of the invention comprises a plate member 4 (FIGS. 1 and 2) affixed to the unit around the bore 1. The plate member 4 has a lock portion 5 (FIG. 2) covering part of the bore 1 and a padlock accommodating hole 6 (FIG. 2) formed through the lock portion of the plate member. Additional holes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and so on (FIG. 2) are formed through the plate member 4 to accommodate screws, bolts, rivets, and the like (FIG. 1), for affixing the plate member to the unit 2, 3, or the like.
A cooperating plate 13 (FIGS. 1 and 2) is movably affixed to a frame member 14 (FIG. 1) adjacent the unit 2, 3, or the like. The cooperating plate has a slot 15 (FIGS. 1 and 2) formed therethrough for accommodating a padlock 16 (FIG. 1). The slot 15 is positioned to overlap the hole 6 through the lock portion 5 of the plate member 4 when the hinged unit is closed and the cooperating plate 13 is in juxtaposed relation therewith, as shown in FIG. 1. Thus, a padlock 16 extending through the slot 15 and the hole 6 hangs in the bore 1 and is accessible from both sides of the hinged unit.
While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
