BOW MAKING KIT
United States Patent 3850293
A kit of equipment and supplies for the making of decorative bows including a bow maker device The bow maker device is in the shape of a box with a side-opening drawer for the containment of supplies, and with a hollow tube mounted vertically extending from the top of the box. The box is furnished with accessory attachable bases which may have adhesive or magnetic backing for holding the device fixed to a working surface. The kit contains lengths of pre-cut ribbons, spangles and other decorative items employed in making bows, which are contained in a carry-all box. The bow maker device is utilized by folding pre-cut ribbons, in which terminal holes have been stamped, over the tube, with the pre-cut terminal holes fitting about the tube circumference. After the ribbons have been aligned by the vertical tube of the device, a decorative, split-leg tack is placed over the top of the tube, with the tack legs extending into the hole. The ribbons are then withdrawn together with the tack, with the ribbons now transferred to the tack legs which are then bent, bolding the ribbons together into the form of a decorative bow.

Claims:
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by letters patent of the United States is

1. A kit for the fabricating of decorative bows from pre-cut ribbons, comprising, in combination,

2. The combination as recited in claim 1 in which at least some of said ribbons are stamped through with decorative shaped cut-outs.

3. The combination as recited in claim 2 with the addition of colored paper having one side coated with an adhesive backing fastening said colored paper about a decorative shaped cut-out stamped in a ribbon.

4. The combination as recited in claim 1 in which at least one of said ribbons is cut in longitudinal lines through the middle portion of the ribbon so as to increase the billowing effect when said ribbon is folded.

5. The combination as recited in claim 1, together with a carrying case which contains additional decorative equipment, including solid decorative objects each terminating in a pair of flexible wrapping wires, adhesive-backed spangles, and an instruction book.

Description:
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a kit for containing equipment and supplies for the fabrication of decorative bows, and particularly for such a kit that may be contained in a carry-all box.

The kit includes a bow maker device which is readily fastened to a working surface by means of accessory bases which are faced with adhesive or magnetic backing. The bow maker device is in the form of a box with a side-opening drawer that may contain bow-fastening tacks. The tacks are formed with decorative heads and split, bendable legs. A hollow vertical tube is fixed to the top of the box, and pre-cut decorative ribbons, with stamped-out terminal holes, are placed on the tube, by bending each ribbon and fastening the two ribbon terminal holes about the tube. When sufficient ribbons to make up the bow have been placed on the tube, the legs of a split leg tack are placed in the hole at the top of the tube, and the ribbons withdrawn over the top of the tube, and transferred onto the legs of the tack, which is simultaneously withdrawn. The split legs of the tack are bent so as to clamp the tack about the ends of the ribbons.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:

The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the bow maker device;

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of pre-cut ribbons which make up a bow;

FIG. 3 is a plan view of a pre-cut ribbon with decorative cut-outs, and with assorted colored papers used to achieve decorative effects;

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a box containing assorted spangles with adhesive backing;

FIG. 5 is a plan view of decorative objects which may be fastened to the bow;

FIG. 6 is a base, with adhesive backing, for fastening the bow maker box to the base surface;

FIG. 7 is a plan view of the instruction book and re-order post card placed in the kit;

FIG. 8 is a perspective view of the carry-all box which contains the supplies and bow maker device; and

FIG. 9 is a plan view of an alternate form of a pre-cut ribbon employed to form a bow.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:

Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 1 illustrates the bow maker device 10 which is in the form of a rectangular box 11 with a removable side drawer 12 which may be employed to contain split-leg tacks 13 and other accessories. Drawer 12 may be opened by use of attached knob 14.

The bow maker device 10 may be fastened to a surface by means of an accessory base 15. As shown in FIG. 6, the accessory base 15 is a flexible strip which may be formed with an adhesive or magnetic backing 66 so as to hold the box 11 in place. A hollow tube 16 is fixed perpendicularly to the top surface 67 of the box, with the outer diameter of the tube 16 being slightly less than the diameter of the terminal holes 22 of pre-cut ribbons 20, shown in FIG. 2.

Pre-cut ribbons 20, the ends of which are formed with points 21, are folded and mounted on the bow maker 10. The two terminal holes 22 of each ribbon 20 is slid over the outer circumference of tube 16, as shown in FIG. 1. When a sufficient quantity of ribbons 20 have been placed on the tube 16, a split leg tack 13, with a decorative head 18, is fitted into the hole 17 at the top of tube 16. The tack 13 is mounted with both split legs 19 of the tack 13 entering the hole 17 of the tube 16. The ribbons 20 are then withdrawn off of the tube 16 and onto the legs 19 of tack 13. Tack 13 is simultaneously withdrawn out of hole 17 of the tube 16. The split legs 19 of the tack 13 are then bent to hold all the ribbons 20 together, forming an attractive and decorative bow.

Ribbons 30 shown in FIG. 3 may be alternately employed in making a bow, with ribbons 30 being pre-stamped with decorative cut-outs 31 which may be in the shape of hearts or other such designs. As shown in FIG. 3, the cut-outs 31 of ribbon 30 may be backed by colored paper 35 which is furnished in the kit, with pre-cut tear lines 32, and with adhesive backings, so as to fasten underneath the decorative cut-outs of ribbon 30.

Alternately ribbons 50, shown in FIG. 9 may be employed in making of the bows, with ribbon 50 being pre-cut in incomplete longitudinal lines 51 so as to create a billowing effect, when ribbon 50 is bent onto the bow maker tube 16, and holes 22 of ribbon 50 fitted about tube 16.

The kit contains an assortment of solid miniature decorative objects, as shown in FIG. 5, including decorative tacks 13, miniature umbrella 36, candles 37, bells 38, toy figures 39 and a greeting plaque 43. Each of these decorative objects may be fastened to the bow, or the ribbon about which the bow is fastened, by means of double flexible wire legs 41. Decorative plaque 43 may be imprinted with markings 42 to convey a greeting or other message.

The equipment and supplies of the kit may be contained in a carry-all box 60 as shown in FIG. 8, said box having a hinged top 63 which is fastened in the closed position by side latches 62. A handle 61 fastened to the hinged top 63. The carry-all box 60 may also contain, as shown in FIG. 7, an instruction booklet 64 and a post card 65 for use in re-ordering necessary supplies. A box 68 containing assorted spangles and other decorative items, as shown in FIG. 4 may also be included in the kit and contained in the carry-all box 60.

Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
