GAME EMPLOYING WRIST ENGAGING MEANS WITH DISENGAGABLE LATCHES
United States Patent 3847398
First and second wrist engaging bracelets are each secured to a corresponding one of first and second cooperating latching device which are detachably engagable. The first device includes an elongated member with oppositely disposed arrow tip half sections normally extended but retractable into the body of the member. The second device has a cruciform shape with a bore in the longitudinal portion, the half sections engaging the bore interior when the two devices are engaged. Disposed along the bore are a plurality of baffles in the form of discs having variously oriented slots with which the extended tip half sections must be aligned as the first device is progressively removed from the second device. The laterally extending portions of the second device contain bores in which are disposed manually operable elements which when operated cause the tip half sections to be retracted into the body of the member so that the two devices can be disengaged.

Claims:
Having thus described this invention, what is asserted as new is

1. In combination:

2. The combination of claim 1 wherein the first device includes spring bias means to normally extend said half sections.

3. The combination of claim 2 wherein said bore has a main region with end regions following the main region, said half sections passsing through the main region into the end regions when the devices are engaged.

4. The combination of claim 3 wherein four end sections are employed, each end section having a barrier which prevents rearward longitudinal movement of the half sections except when these half sections are rotated to different selected positions, the half sections having to be rotated to a different position for passing each barrier, the first device being manually rotatable in said bore.

5. The combination of claim 4 wherein each barrier is a disc disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, each disc having diametrically aligned slots defining said selected positions.

6. The combination of claim 5 wherein the manually operable means in the second device have spring loaded manually operable mechanisms for forcing said half sections into the recesses to permit withdrawal of the first member from the second member, said mechanisms communicating with said main region and acting upon the half sections only when positioned in said main region.

Description:
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This invention is directed toward a game in which the wrists of two players are detachably secured together and the players must disengage as quickly as possible.

First and second wrist engaging means each are secured to the wrist of a corresponding player. Each of these means is secured to a corresponding one of first and second cooperating latching devices which are detachably engagable. The first device includes an elongated member with an oppositely disposed arrow tip half sections normally extended but being retractable into the body of the member. The second device has a cruciform shape with a longitudinal bore in the longitudinal portion. The half sections engage the bore interior when the two devices are engaged.

The invention is described in more detail below.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

In the drawings:

FIG. 1 shows the invention ready for use;

FIG. 2 is a cross section of one of the parts used in FIG. 1; and

FIG. 3 is a cross section of another of the parts used in FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Referring now to FIGS. 1-3, two individuals each wear elastic expandable bracelets 10 or other wrist engaging means which are connected via eyelets or eyes 12 to corresponding mating eyes or loops 14 secured to opposite ends of detachable engageble cooperating latching devices 16 and 18. The purpose of the game, after devices 16 and 18 have been engaged, is for these two individuals to disengage the devices as quickly as possible.

Device 16 is an elongated hollow tube 20 with a tapered end 22 opposite the loop carrying end. Two oppositely disposed triangular plates 24 coplanar, extend out of opposed slots or recesses 26 adjacent end 22 in the tube to together define an arrow tip, and are pivotally secured together at the end 22. These plates can be pushed fully into the recesses but are normally extended because of the pressure of transversely extending bias spring 28.

Device 18 is a cruciform shaped member having a longitudinally extending bore having an entry region 30, a main region 32 and four successive end regions 34, 36, 38 and 40, each separated by a transverse disc 42 having a slot 44 through which the plates 24 in extended position must pass as well as a central hole 46 through which the tube 20 can pass with plates 24 in recessed position.

In use, the tube 20 is pushed into the bore, the plates being necessarily recessed because of their taper and pressure of the surrounding walls. When the plates are fully disposed in region 40, they are automatically extended, and the tube cannot be pulled back until it is manually rotated (since the tube is rotatable in the bore) and pulled at the same time until the plates still extended pass through the differently oriented slots in the discs.

Once the tube has been withdrawn to a position at which the plates are in main region 32, it is necessary to force the plates into their recesses before the tube can be fully withdrawn.

The transverse portion of device 18 contains two oppositely disposed plungers 48 normally forced outward by corresponding bias springs 50. By finger pressure, these plungers can be forced inward to momentarily recess the plates whereby the removal can be completed.

While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
