SHOWER HEAD FLOW DIVERTER ATTACHMENT
United States Patent 3847159

Claims:
What is claimed is
1. A flow diverter device for a shower head comprising an elongated, open-sided deflector and conduit member which is U-shaped in cross-section, which is open along one side for its full length and which has a closed end and an open discharge end, support arm means extending from the closed end of the member past the open side thereof, clamp means attachable to a shower head water supply pipe adjacent a shower head, and a friction hinge connection between said support arm means and said clamp means, said member being thereby adapted to be swung upwardly and away from the shower head to a first or inoperative position and to be swung downwardly and toward the shower head to a first or operative position to at least partially enclose the same and direct the shower head discharge water away from the user and toward the shower compartment wall on which the shower head is located.
Description:
The essential object and advantage of the invention is the provision of a simple, two-position deflector and conduit member which attaches to a shower head and is operative in one of the positions to deflect and redirect the shower head discharge immediately adjacent the shower head so that it is directed away from and out of contact with the occupant of the shower.
This and other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the drawing forming part of this specification, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in perspective of the attachment device of the invention in its deflector position in relation to a shower and shower head.
FIG. 2 is a similar view showing the device in raised, non-deflecting position.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged view, partly in section, taken along lines 3--3 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a view, partly in section, taken along lines 4--4 of FIG. 3.
A preferred embodiment of the flow diverter attachment is shown in the drawing. It comprises a generally U-shaped body portion 10 comprising a semi-cylindrical portion 12 and a tapered discharge nozzle portion 14, and end wall 16, a pair of arms 18, nut and bolt attachment means 20 carried by the arms, and a loop-like clamp 22 removably and pivotally attached to the bolt and adapted to be clamped to pipe 24 which carries shower head 26. Reinforcement webs 28 may be provided at the juncture of portion 12 and end wall 16.
It will be appreciated that the device is initially positioned as shown in FIG. 1 until the shower user is satisfied that the deflected discharge stream 30, which is directed against and flows down the shower wall 32, is satisfactory to the user. Whereupon, the user flips the deflector to the position of FIG. 2, i.e., the device is moved to the raised, inoperative position.
