Claims:
I claim

1. A pool device for use by handicapped persons in supporting a pool cue stick, such device comprising a triangular shaped body member providing support means for a cue stick, a rubber strip affixed to the bottom surface of said body member to provide a non-slip grip for said body member to a pool table bed, weight means attached to said body member providing the necessary weight for aiding in holding said device steady upon said bed of said pool table, said body member including a plurality of spaced apart openings each with a second deadening material secured to the inner periphery thereof, to provide for smoothness and quietness of operation for said device when used with a cue stick extending through one of said openings, a guide member spaced apart from said body member, a connecting rod member with one end affixed to said body member and the other end affixed to and supporting said guide member, said guide member cooperating with said body member to provide support for said cue stick when said cue stick is received in a selected one of said openings thereby to guide said cue stick when said device is used to play pool.

2. The pool device according to claim 1, wherein the apex portion of said body member is rounded, and wherein one of said openings is located centrally in said apex portion, and the remainder of said openings are spaced below said apex portion, and additionally wherein the bottom portion of said body member carries said weight means, said weight means comprising a lead strip extending from one side edge to the other side edge of the leg sides of said triangular shaped body member, said lead strip being secured thereto by means of a plurality of fasteners.

3. The pool device according to claim 2, wherein the connecting rod member of said device is attached to said body member off to one side and below said opening of said rounded apex portion, said rod member being attached by suitable fastening means which is removable therefrom thereby providing for positioning of said connecting rod on the opposite side of said opening of said rounded apex portion.

4. The pool device according to claim 1, wherein said guide member has an opening therein adapted to receive said cue stick, said opening having a sound deadening material secured to its inner periphery to provide for silent operation of said cue stick when received in said opening.

Description:
This invention relates to devices for pool tables, and more particularly to a pool handicapping device.

It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a pool handicapping device which will be an improved pool bridge, the unit being of such structure so as to stay upon the cue stick so as to be quickly removed from the table after each shot is made.

Another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which can be removed from the table with one hand.

The present invention makes it possible for the handicapped to shoot pool as well as if they were able to rest the cue stick on one hand while holding the cue with the other hand.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which will not only serve as an aid to the handicapped but may be used as a regular bridge so as to enable the shooter to reach one end of the table to the other.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which may be assembled for a right-handed shooter or a left-handed shooter, simply by reversing the rod portion to the other side of the body of the device.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which will include a substantially triangular shaped body which will have a lead strip secured thereto so as to add weight to the body to prevent the device from slipping when a person is using it.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a pool handicapping device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention;

FIG. 2 is a fragmentary front view of FIG. 1 shown in elevation; and

FIG. 3 is a side view of the device shown in use.

According to this invention, a device 10 is shown to consist of a body 11 of triangular configuration which is rounded at the upper apex end. The body portion 11 is made of plastic or other suitable material, the edge surfaces 12 having adhered thereto a continuous rubber strip 13 so as to prevent the body 11 from slipping, particularly when the unit is rested upon the rail of the table which is normally rather smooth.

A strip of lead 14 is secured to the lower side of body 11 by means of a pair of screw fasteners 15, the lead strip 14 serving to prevent the device 10 from slipping when the user is shooting pool therewith.

A rod 16 of brass or aluminum material, is secured near the upper extremity of body 11 by means of a screw fastener 17, the opposite end of rod 16 being secured fixedly to a guide member 18. Guide member 18 is provided with an opening 19 which has secured to its periphery a felt ring 20, for smooth and silent movement of the cue stick 21. The cue stick 21 when used to strike ball 22 is placed within opening 19 of the guide member 18 and is placed also in one of the plurality of spaced apart openings 23 which are provided with a felt ring 24 which is suitably adhered to the inner peripheries of the openings 23. The felt rings 24 of openings 23 provide for quiet and smooth sliding of the cue stick 21.

Referring to FIG. 3 of the drawing, one will see how the device 10 is used to align the cue stick 21 with ball 22, the body member 11 being used in conjunction with the guide member 18 for supporting and guiding the cue stick 21.

It will be noted that device 10 may be used by a left-handed person by removing rod 16 from the body 11 and placing it on the opposite side thus securing it again with the screw fastener 17.
