Claims:
What is claimed is

1. A multiplate filter for filtering out solids from a mixture of solid and liquid material, said filter being usable in a screw press having a hollow tube carrying a screw conveyor for conveying said mixture therethrough, whereby said hollow tube is sectioned at least at one portion thereof, with said filter mountable therein, said multiplate filter comprising:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a filter which may be used for example in a screw press well-known in the art, and constructed so that clogging of the filter is prevented.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. A feeding port (17) is provided in the upper part of a right cylinder (31), fixed hollow plates (5) each provided with a circular aperture (35) and rocking hollow plates (6) each provided with a circular aperture (37) are arranged alternately with each other and the fixed hollow plates (5) are fastened with nuts by passing long bolts (8) through them through washers (7) between the fixed hollow plates (5), the thickness of the washer (7) maintains the clearance between the fixed hollow plates in order to allow the rocking plates to be movable, between a left cylinder (34) having a discharging port (33) and the above mentioned right cylinder (31), a lug (10) is projected from each of the right and left side of said rocking hollow plate (6), horizontal long pins (12) are passed through said lugs (10), a connecting rod (11) is pivotally jointed at one end with said horizontal long pin (12) and at the other end with a crank (13) fitted to a rotary shaft (16) rotated with a power unit (not illustrated) and a screw conveyer (24) is carried by right cylinder (31) and left cylinder (34). The diameter of the circular aperture of the fixed hollow plate may be different from the diameter of the circular aperture of the rocking hollow plate depending upon the characteristic of the material.

The operation of the above device is as follows. A material to be filtered is fed in through the feeding port (17). While it is being conveyed by the screw conveyer (24), water and fine particles will flow down between the fixed hollow plate (5) and the rocking hollow plate (6) and only solids will be discharged from the discharging port (33).

An alternative form of the invention is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 wherein a hollow cylinder (2) is fitted to a frame (1) and is partly cut, right and left hollow outer cylinder end plates (3) and (4) are fitted to the cylinder 2 at the cut part, fixed hollow plates (5) and rocking hollow plates (6) are alternately arranged through washers (7) between said outer cylinder end plates (3) and (4) to form a multiplate filtering part (9), a lug (10) is projected from each of the right and left side of each rocking hollow plate (6), said lugs (10) on each side are pivotally jointed through a horizontal connecting pin (12) with a connecting rod (11) at the lower end, said connecting rod (11) is pivotally jointed at the upper end with a crank (13), a crank shaft (16) is made rotatable through an operatively connecting mechanism (15) by a motor (14) fitted in the upper part of a frame (1), a feeding port (17) is provided in the right upper part of the above mentioned hollow cylinder (2), a bearing plate (19) provided with a bearing (18) is fitted to the right end of the hollow cylinder (2), a left bearing plate (20) is provided at the left end of the hollow cylinder (2), a lid (22) to be a discharging port (21) is fitted through springs (23) or the like so as to give a resistance, a screw conveyer (24) is inserted and borne in the above mentioned hollow cylinder (2) and a shaft (25) of said screw conveyer is connected with the above mentioned motor (14) through such operatively connecting mechanism (26) as a chain.

The operation of the embodiments of the instant invention shown in FIG. 3 is as follows. When the motor (14) is rotated and material is fed in through the feeding port (17), the rocking hollow plates (6) will be rocked by the rotation of the crank (13), therefore water and fine particles will be filtered through the multiplate filtering part (9) and will be discharged downward, only solids will be conveyed leftward by the screw conveyer (24) and will be further squeezed by the force of the springs (23) and, if the multiplate filtering part (9) is provided as inclined downward from the horizontal plane, the water will flow back and will be again discharged out of the multiplate filtering part (9).

The present invention therefore as described above provides rocking motion of the rocking hollow plate (6) which prevents clogging between rocking hollow plate (6) and adjacent fixed hollow plate (5) and thus fine particles and water can be favorably filtered.

Further, in the present invention, as the rocking hollow plate (6) between the fixed hollow plates (5) rocks, water and fine particles can be removed without clogging and, as solids conveyed by the screw conveyer (24) arrive at the lid (22) and push it open against the force of the springs (23), water can be squeezed and the intensity of the squeeze can be easily controlled by adjusting the springs (23) but the same object can be attained by any other mechanism giving a resistive force.

Furthermore, in case of providing a multiplate filtering, part (9) at the left side of the hollow cylinder (2), squeezing and dewatering are attained effectively.
