GOLF BALL RETRIEVING DEVICE
United States Patent 3773374
A device for retrieving golf balls from water. The device includes primarily, a double ended hook pivotably secured to a telescoping rod. The double ended hook of the device when engaging the ball enables the user to lift the ball from the water without the hook discharging the ball.

What I claim is

1. A golf ball retrieving device comprising an elongated handle with an aperture in one end to receive the horizontal bar of a double-ended hook where the hooks are identical and parallel and is so constructed that the straight portion of the double-ended hook is sufficiently long so as to dangle and pivot in the aperture of the elongated handle thereby allowing the curved portion of the double-ended hook to readily engage the ball and that the radius of curvature of the curved portion of the double-ended hook is properly sized in combination with the distance between the two hooks so that the radius of curvature conforms to the peripheral surface of the golf ball to firmly engage said ball so as not to discharge said ball as it is lifted from the water.

Description:
This invention relates to devices for golfers and more particularly to a golf ball retrieving device.

It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a ball retrieving device which will consist of a double ended hook which will be placed behind the ball so as to be pulled forward and engaging the ball so as to lift it from the water.

Another object of this invention is to provide a retrieving device of which the double ended hook position when lowering it into the water will remain in a vertical position when engaging the peripheral surface of the ball so that the user may lift the ball from the water without the device accidentally discharging the ball therefrom.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described of which the double ended hook will have a center portion free to pivot within a pair of bushings, one on either side of the flattened end of the telescoping rod.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a golf ball retrieving device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown in elevation with the telescoping rod portion and the golf ball shown in phantom lines;

FIG. 2 is a front view of FIG. 1 shown partly broken away; and

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary side view of the device shown in use.

According to this invention, a golf ball retrieving device 10 is shown to include a pivotable double ended hook 11 which is supported within opening 12 at the flattened end 13 of telescoping rod 14. The central portion of hook 11 is pivotally carried within a pair of spaced apart plastic bushings 15, the bushings 15 serving to keep the flattened end portion 13 of rod 14 in the center of the double ended hook and hook 11 is free to depend therefrom in a substantially vertical manner when engaging ball 16 and also when the device 10 is lowered into the water.

Referring now more particularly to FIG. 3, one will see how the hook 11 is placed behind the ball 16 and then drawn toward the user in which case the two ends will engage the outer peripheral surface of the golf ball 16 on each side, thus enabling the user to then lift the device 10 and the ball 16 upwards and out of the water.
