Abstract:
The invention discloses a necktie so designed that the knot stays tied and allows the portion around the neck to be unfastened and taken off the neck with the small portion of the tie sliding through the knot when refastened to adjust the neck portion to the user.

1. A made up necktie comprising:
Description:
This invention relates to a four-in-hand necktie preformed to make a knot wherein the small end of the tie slides through the knot to adjust the tie around the neck of the user.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a necktie preformed with the part around the neck being in two pieces and easily fastened together and unfastened to secure the neck portion around the neck of the user and to unfasten the portion to take off the tie without untying the knot; to provide a bridge to fit within the knot to hold the knot in shape throughout its life; to provide a knot wherein there is a tubular opening through one side thereof; to provide the portion of the small end of the tie with a substantially round portion having a filler therein so the round and filled portion will slide easily through the knot; to provide the filler with a tapered shape to tighten the same in the sleeve; to provide a fastener on the underside of the large portion of the tie and also a portion on a side of the small portion of the tie facing the back side of the large portion to engage and cooperate with the fastener to hold the tie together and to provide a device of this character simple and economical to manufacture.

1 DESIGNATES A TIE EMBODYING THE FEATURES OF MY INVENTION OF THE FOUR-IN-HAND TYPE WHEREIN 3 DESIGNATES THE LARGE WIDTH PORTION OR END AND 4 THE SMALL WIDTH PORTION AND 5 DESIGNATES THE NECK LOOP PORTION WHICH IS ALSO OF SMALL WIDTH, OR AT LEAST SMALLER THAN THE MAIN PORTION 3 AND THE SMALLER PORTION 4.
6 DESIGNATES THE KNOT PORTION GENERALLY KNOWN AS A "Windsor" knot or the like and formed by taking the large end 3 at its tapered portion or smaller portion 7 and wrapping it around the free end 4 and then bringing it up underneath the tie and down through the loop to form a sleeve 8 to form the face 9 of the tie.
The tie is cut through the neck portion 5 to divide the neck loop and the respective ends are provided with fastening means 10 and 11. The fastening means are secured to the free ends 12 and 13 of the tie by sewing as indicated at 14 and 15.
The fastening device consists of reusable fastening tape having hook and loop fasteners the section 10 having soft pliable loops 16 and the other mating portion a plurality of hook devices 17 sometimes called "Velcro," and by placing the two together will adhere until desired to unfasten the ends and then they may be readily pulled apart. Other forms of fasteners may be used if desired.
Before the knot 6 is formed, the small end 4 has its respective side edges 18 and 19 sewed together as indicated at 20 forming a sleeve 21 which is filled with a soft cloth material or the like as indicated at 22 forming a sliding portion 23 to adjust the tie around the neck after the ends 10 and 11 have been fastened together. The filler material 22 is tapered from top to bottom as shown in FIG. 2 to form a wedging effect to tighten the tie around the neck and hold the same in place.
The back side 24 of the tie 3 has a fastening portion 25 of the same material as that shown at 17 on the neck portion and the front side 26 of the small end 4 of the tie is furnished with a fastening piece 27 of the tie shown at 10 of the neck portion so that when the small end 4 is adjusted around the neck the fastening parts 25 and 27 may be secured together to hold the tie in place.
The lower end of the sewed together side edges of the tie as indicated at 28 causes a flairing outwardly at the points 29 and 30 forming a stop to prevent pulling of the small end of the tie through the sleeve 8.
In FIG. 2 there is also indicated stitching of the tie at 32 and 33 to hold the knot portions in place and to provide a pocket 30 for a bridge member 31 preferably made of plastic or other semi-rigid material which engages within the pocket as illustrated in FIG. 2 to hold the knot in shape after it is formed.
It is obvious that the knot is formed before the tie is in condition for use. This may be done either in a factory or some suitable place. In order for the user to put the tie on the rounded portion 20 of the small end of the tie 4 is pulled through the knot sleeve 8 to enlarge the neck band portion 5. The tie is usually unfastened at the fastening means 10 and 11 and then fastened after the neck portion 5 is placed around the neck. When this is accomplished, the end 4 of the tie may be pulled to adjust the rounded portion 20 in the sleeve to the proper comfortable wearing size of the neck and then the fastening means 25 and 27 on the respective ends of the tie secured together.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that I have provided an improved preformed knot tie with adjustable neck band and one easily applied to the neck of the user without untying the knot.
