FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention resides in the area of neckties, and particularly in the provision of a necktie having a simulated knot, with a tie member dependent therefrom, pivotally secured to a neck band so that by pivoting the tie and knot on the pivot means, either side of the tie may be displayed as desired by a wearer.
SUMMARY AND OBJECT OF INVENTION
An object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive necktie assembly, having a neck band, with a simulated knot and tie, wherein said simulated knot is pivotally secured to said neck band to afford turning either side of the tie out for display.
This and various other objects are attained by the disclosure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is an exploded view of the necktie assembly, showing proposed component parts therefore.
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of the improved necktie assembly as it appears when being worn, but omitting any portrayal of the wearer.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view on line 3--3 of FIG. 2 illustrating two plys of cloth which may be used in the manufacture of the suspended tie member, whereby different patterns may respectively be displayed when the respective sides of the tie are turned outwardly.
FIG. 4 is a partial view, similar to FIG. 2, but showing the opposite side of the tie turned outwardly, and omitting a full repetitive disclosure of the neck band.
In these views the reference character 1 designates a neck band, preferably of an elastic, or other yieldably resistant material. The tie comprises two other major elements, namely a simulated knot 2, and an elongated tie member 3, dependent from the simulated knot.
Reverting to the neck band, fastening means such as a snap member 4 may be secured to an end portion of said neck band, and a plurality of mating snap members 5 may be secured to the other end portion. Thus, the plurality of snap members 5 and the elasticity of the neck band 1 afford substantial adjustment to provide a comfortable fit for a wearer of the tie assembly. The neck band portion of the assembly is completed by the provision of an elongated pivot member 6 which may be secured as by a circular flange 7 to the neck band in an appropriate position.
The simulated knot comprises a body member 8 illustrated as tapered to conform to the configuration of a conventional type of tie knot. It is desirable to make such body member of sponge rubber, or other suitable materials which would receive fastening means to secure the completed simulated knot in assembly. As may be seen in FIG. 1, a sleeve 9 is contoured to conform to the configuration of the body 8, and is open at both the top and the bottom end thereof. Still referring to FIG. 1, the tie member 3 may be seen to include two layers of fabric 10 and 11. It is proposed that each of the two layers of fabric shall have differing patterns, so that when the completed assembly is rotated, either of the desired patterns may be displayed by the wearer. For simplicity's sake, the layer of material 10 is shown with horizontal stripes, and the material 11 is shown with vertical stripes.
In assembly, the upper end portion 12 of the tie elements 10 and 11 are slipped upwardly through the bottom opening of the sleeve 9 and brought to overlie on opposite sides of the knot member 8. The sleeve member 9 is then drawn upwardly to encompass both the knot member 8 and the upper end portions of the tie elements and is then secured in position. Pins 13 are illustrated as a means of securing the elements of the simulated knot in assembly, but, it is understood, that stitching, or any other convenient means may be employed for this purpose.
The pivot member 6 and 7, disclosed in FIG. 1, is intended merely to be illustrative, and it should be understood that any suitable pivotal member may be employed for this purpose. In the disclosed version, it is contemplated that the body assembly 2, 8, 13 will be forced upwardly to impale the body 8 upon the pivot member 6, whereon it may be frictionally, but rotatably, retained.
