Claims:
What I claim is
1. A lantern holder, comprising in combination, an elongated hollow tube, and end of said tube being made to fit into an oar lock of a boat, said tube having a straight portion adjacent said end, said portion extending a major part of said tube, an opposite end of said tube being bent to form a semi-circular portion, a row of equally spaced apart openings along said straight portion of said tube, said opening being on a side which is opposite to a side toward which said semi-circular portion is bent, a singular opening being along said row of openings and being formed at a junction between said straight portion and said semi-circular portion, said singular opening having an axis which is inclined respective to said straight portion, said axis being on a tangent of said semi-circular portion, a flexible line being fitted through said singular opening and having a major intermediate portion thereof extending through said semi circular portion of said tube, the opposite ends of said line each having a hook secured thereto, said hook secured to said line end extending from said semi-circular portion being adaptable to hold a lantern, and the other said hook being adaptable for selectively engaging any one of said equally spaced apart openings.
Description:
This invention relates to supporting devices, and more particularly to a lantern holder.
It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a lantern holder which will aid fishermen while fishing from a boat at night.
Another object of this invention is to provide a lantern holder from which the lantern will depend, the opposite end being of such diameter so as to be received within the oar lock of the boat.
Another object of this invention is to provide a lantern holder of the type described which will be hollow and will have the line extending through the upper arch portion, the line having a hook from which the lantern is depended from and the opposite end of the line having a hook which may engage anyone of a plurality of spaced apart openings, the openings allowing for the lantern to be raised or lowered to any desired height above the water.
A further object of this invention is to provide a holder which will be rotatable within the oar lock in order that the lamp may be swung over the side of the boat.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a lantern holder which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a vertical side vidw of the present invention shown in elevation with the lamp holding cord and lamp shown removed therefrom;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the upper extremity of FIG. 1 showing how the cord is held through the device;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the hook from which the lantern depends from; and
FIG. 4 is a rear view of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a lantern holder 10 is composed of a hollow tube 11 having an end portion 12 for insertion into an oar lock (not shown).
Tube 11 is provided with an arcuate elbow 13 having an opening 14 from which extends line 15. Line 15 extends out of the open ends 16 of elbow 13 and a hook 17 is secured thereto in order to engage the bail 18 of lantern 19.
To the opposite end of line 15 is secured a hook 20 for engagement with any of the plurality of spaced apart openings 21 of tube 11.
As shown in FIG. 2 of the drawing, it is to be noted that the opening 14 has an axis which is at an angle respective to the straight portion of tube 11 and which includes the upper part of opening 14 being outwardly flared and a lower portion thereof inwardly flared so that the axis of the opening is on a tangent of the semi-circular portion of the tube opening.
It shall be noted that the placement of hook 20 at any one of the openings 21, allows for lantern 19 to be raised or lowered to any desired height and will also render it stationary to the tube 11.
After the bail 18 of lantern 19 has been placed upon the hook 17 the tube 11 is rotated so that the elbow 13 extends out over the water whereupon the height of lantern 19 may be adjusted by engaging hook 20 in any one of the openings 21.
