Description:
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to door lock security devices for preventing access to a doorknob and more particularly to a device for covering and locking a doorknob lock whereby the knob lock may not be operated although a person gains access to the room where the doorknob lock is located. The device may be unlocked to allow unlocking of the doorknob lock and the device has an access hole to allow a locking of the doorknob although the device is locked upon the doorknob.
In the drawings forming part of this application:
FIG. 1 is a perspective of a cover for door handle lock embodying the invention and shown in closed locked position on a door only a portion of which is shown.
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the cover shown in locked position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the cover for doorknob lock A includes the base 10 which is secured to the door D by means of the screws 12. Formed on the lower end of the base 10 is the extension 14 which extends outwardly from the base 10. The base 10 is formed with the opening 16 through which the doorknob K is extended and within which the escutcheon plate 18 is positioned when the base is secured upon the door.
The numeral 20 designates a cover which has a peripheral wall including the top wall 22, the spaced side walls 24 and 26, the bottom wall 28. The front wall 30 is connected to the peripheral wall and is formed with the access hole 32. The peripheral wall and the front wall form a cavity in which the knob is positioned. Further, the cover 20 is hingedly mounted on the base 10 by means of the hinge 34 secured to the inner edge of the top wall 22 and the base 10.
The cover 20 is of a vertical dimension such that it is positioned closely adjacent the extension 14 when in closed position upon the base 10 and over the knob K. The extension 14 has mounted therein the conventional key lock 36 with key 37 and the bolt 38. When in locked position the bolt extends into the slot 40 formed in the underside of the bottom wall 30 thereby locking the cover upon the doorknob whereby access to the knob is prevented. The screws 12 aligned so that the heads of the same are concealed when the cover is upon the base. The knob K has the locking button 42 in alignment with which is the access hole.
With the cover member 20 in locked position upon the knob K, the door D cannot be opened by an intruder breaking the glass of the door and operating the knob. The access hole 32 allows the locking button of the doorknob to be depressed and locked when the cover 20 is in locked position.
To allow the door to be unlocked the cover 10 must be hingedly raised after unlocking the lock 14.
