ADJUSTABLE SHAWL COLLAR

An adjustable shawl collar consists of a length of material provided with pile or fur on both sides. One end of the collar is provided with buttons arranged in alinement in rows on both sides. The other end of the collar carries loops adapted to engage these buttons.

Claims:
I claim
1. An adjustable shawl collar, comprising a length of material having pile or fur on opposite sides, rows of buttons located on both sides adjacent one end of said length, and loops carried by the other end for engaging any one of said buttons.
2. A collar in accordance with claim 1, wherein any button located upon one side is directly opposite another button located upon the other side.
3. A collar in accordance with claim 2, wherein each side carries two rows of buttons extending parallel to the direction of said length, the buttons of one row being located directly below the buttons of the other row.
4. A collar in accordance with claim 3, wherein each row consists of three spaced buttons.
1. An adjustable shawl collar, comprising a length of material having pile or fur on opposite sides, rows of buttons located on both sides adjacent one end of said length, and loops carried by the other end for engaging any one of said buttons.
2. A collar in accordance with claim 1, wherein any button located upon one side is directly opposite another button located upon the other side.
3. A collar in accordance with claim 2, wherein each side carries two rows of buttons extending parallel to the direction of said length, the buttons of one row being located directly below the buttons of the other row.
4. A collar in accordance with claim 3, wherein each row consists of three spaced buttons.
Description:
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to an adjustable warm collar and refers more particularly to a shawl collar to be worn in inclement weather and in cold climates. p Persons exposed to bad weather and/or a cold climate usually wear a scarf which is tied around their necks. This arrangement is often unsatisfactory since the scarf often becomes untied or is shifted from its original position with the result that the neck or a major part of the neck is exposed to rain, wind or cold.
An object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of existing scarfs.

In the accomplishment of the objectives of the present invention it was found desirable to provide an elongated length of material the height of which corresponds to that of the neck of the wearer. The material is covered on both sides by pile or suitable fur. One end of the length of material is provided with buttons while the other end carries loops adapted to engage these buttons. According to the present invention buttons are arranged in alinement on both sides of the material. Preferably upon each side there are two rows of buttons with three buttons in each row. The loops upon the other end of the length of material are so located that they will conveniently engage two buttons located parallel to each other and belonging to different rows upon either side of the length of material. p The advantage of this shawl collar is that it will firmly engage the neck of the wearer without any danger that it may become unbuttoned. Another advantage is the wide adjustment possibility, namely, the wearer in addition to adjusting the collar to the size of his neck, can provide a looser or a tighter fit by using the button located on the outer side of the collar or upon its inner side. Finally, by connecting only one top button with a loop, the collar can be worn with slightly spread ends covering a part of the chest.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing showing by way of example only, a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.

The shawl collar of the present invention has two sides 4 and 5 each consisting of a pile or furlike material. Both sides are the same, so that each side can be used as the front or the back. In the illustrated construction a seam 6 extending around the entire collar joins the sides 4 and 5. p Each side may have a back (not shown) carrying the lengths of pile or fur. It is also possible to provide a central piece (also not shown) to which the pile or fur is attached by any suitable means. p The collar has an end 7 provided with buttons. In accordance with the present invention similarly arranged buttons are provided on both sides 4 and 5 of the collar. On each side the buttons are arranged in two parallel rows, each row consisting of three suitably spaced buttons. The drawing shows the side 4 carrying a first row of buttons 8, 9 and 10 and a second row of buttons 11, 12 and 13. The side 5 carries a first row of buttons 14, 15 and 16 and a second row of buttons 17, 18 and 19. As shown in FIG. 2, the button 14 is located directly opposite the button 8, the button 15 is located directly opposite the button 9 and so on. This arrangement assures complete reversibility of both sides of the collar and makes it possible to attach two opposed buttons to the collar by a single piece of thread.
The other end 20 of the collar carries two loops 21 and 22. These loops may be made of wire, string or any other suitable material and their inner ends are fixed inside the collar by any suitable means (not shown). As indicated in FIG. 3 the loops are located opposite the rows of buttons and are of such size that they fit conveniently over all the buttons.
The closed collar will fit tightly over the neck of the user and will keep it warm in rain, cold and inclement weather. The arrangement of the buttons will make it possible to adjust the collar to the individual desires of the user. For example, the user may place a loop 21 over a lower button 19, thereby lowering the lower edge of the collar. Various other arrangements are possible due to the provision of four rows of buttons.

In the accomplishment of the objectives of the present invention it was found desirable to provide an elongated length of material the height of which corresponds to that of the neck of the wearer. The material is covered on both sides by pile or suitable fur. One end of the length of material is provided with buttons while the other end carries loops adapted to engage these buttons. According to the present invention buttons are arranged in alinement on both sides of the material. Preferably upon each side there are two rows of buttons with three buttons in each row. The loops upon the other end of the length of material are so located that they will conveniently engage two buttons located parallel to each other and belonging to different rows upon either side of the length of material. p The advantage of this shawl collar is that it will firmly engage the neck of the wearer without any danger that it may become unbuttoned. Another advantage is the wide adjustment possibility, namely, the wearer in addition to adjusting the collar to the size of his neck, can provide a looser or a tighter fit by using the button located on the outer side of the collar or upon its inner side. Finally, by connecting only one top button with a loop, the collar can be worn with slightly spread ends covering a part of the chest.

The shawl collar of the present invention has two sides 4 and 5 each consisting of a pile or furlike material. Both sides are the same, so that each side can be used as the front or the back.
