1. An air inflatable cushion having plural separately inflatable sections, said sections being superposed one above the other and each having diverse thickness front to back when inflated, said sections being also of diverse average thickness, whereby an inflated total cushion of various heights and slopes can be achieved by selectively inflating the sections.

Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It is well known to provide inflatable mattresses, cushions, and the like, but these are not in superposed individually inflatable sections, of diverse slopes and thicknesses. It is desirable to provide such cushions, which can be used not only to support the head, but also other parts of the body, for example the back and thighs. By fabricating the separate sections of the cushion to have various thicknesses and various tapers or slopes back to front, it is feasible to select the net taper or slope and the height of the inflated cushion by suitably selecting those sections which will be inflated and leaving other sections uninflated.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An inflatable cushion having multiple separately inflatable superposed sections, of diverse configurations.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The above and still further objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description of one specific embodiment thereof, especially when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a view in plan of a cushion according to the invention;

FIG. 2 is a view in side elevation of the cushion of FIG. 1; and

FIG. 3 is a view in side elevation of the cushion of FIG. 1, as deflated.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In FIG. 2, 10, 11, 12, 13 are separate inflatable pads, each having an air valve, as 14. The separate pads are superposed and cemented together, or sewn together, but each of the pads is different from the others, either in thickness or slope, back to front.

FIG. 3 shows the pads as deflated, and in such condition they present a flexible array.

A specific shape in plan, for the cushion of FIGS. 2 and 3, as applicable to the back and thighs, is illustrated in FIG. 1. Here, extensions 18, 19 may fit the thighs and may be elevated above the back portion 20 of the cushion, allocated to the back. Clearly, any actual cushion may be conformed to any part or parts of the body, in any desired position of these.

The cushion of the present invention may have medical uses, as where limbs are broken, or sprains occur, or it may have application in the home, for use under the head, or under a foot, or a thigh (in the case of a fracture), or under the back and thighs to provide comfort and support.

While I have described and illustrated one specific embodiment of my invention, it will be clear that variations of the details of construction which are specifically illustrated and described may be resorted to without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
