I claim

1. In combination a sleeping bag having upper and lower sections in superposed relation, a flexible panel extending across the width of said sections and secured along three sides to one end portion of said lower section, said panel defining a pocket opening in the direction of the opposite end of said lower section, said panel having a marginal edge at the pocket opening folded back upon itself and forming a tube extending transversely of said sections, and a drawstring received in said tube and having end portions extending outwardly thereof for selectively constricting said pocket opening transversely of said sections, said sections when rolled upon themselves from said opposite end being received in said pocket and being substantially completely enclosed therein.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a sleeping bag provided with a full-width hood attached at one end. The bag may be fully extended for sleeping purposes and in such case the hood is disposed underneath the bag. For transport or storage the hood may be positioned over the top of the bag so that the bag in its full width may be rolled into it. The hood thereby serves as a protective enclosure and the rolled up bag may also serve as a bolster. The bag is maintained in rolled condition by a drawstring.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a sleeping bag having an attached hood at one end arranged to function as a pocket and cover to receive and retain the bag in rolled condition for storage and transport.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a sleeping bag of the foregoing character in which the hood may be folded under the bag and out of the way when the bag is used for sleeping.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a sleeping bag of the foregoing character which in rolled up condition may serve as a bolster.

Still a further object of this invention is the provision of combined sleeping bag and hood utilizing a minimum of material.

Other and further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from the following description when the same is considered in connection with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a combination sleeping bag and hood, in accordance with my invention, and showing the bag in extended condition and with the hood so disposed as to receive the bag.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing the bag in partially rolled up condition and illustrating the manner in which the rolled-up bag is received within the hood.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing the bag completely received within the hood and tied to form a bolster, and

FIG. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the hood disposed beneath the bag as when the bag is used for sleeping purposes.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a sleeping bag which is preferably of conventional construction and comprises upper and lower sections 11 and 12 generally rectangular and joined along a longitudinal edge 13. The sections 11 and 12 are fabricated from suitable fabric material well known in the art and may be integrally formed.

Cooperating slide fastener elements 14 and 16 are attached to sections 11 and 12 along the bottom and free longitudinal edges 17, 17' and 18, 18' respectively, and terminate a short distance from the top edges 19, 19' of the sections 11 and 12.

Attached to the lower section 12 along the top edge 19' and for a relatively short distance downwardly along each of the two longitudinal edges 13 and 18 is a generally rectangular panel of fabric 21 which may be of single or multiple ply. Said panel forms with the lower section 12, in the head portion thereof, a pocket opening towards the foot portion of the bag. The free edge of the panel 21 is folded back upon itself and stitched to form a tube 22 to receive a draw cord 23 which passes outwardly through slits at each end of the tube. While the panel 21 is shown in FIG. 1 as assuming the character of a more or less rigid hood or awning, it will be understood that this section is shown in opened condition merely to illustrate the capacity of the pocket. Normally the panel 21 would assume a collapsed condition.

In use, when the bag is used for sleeping, the panel 21 is folded under the lower section 12, as illustrated in FIG. 4. In such position the panel 21 is out of the way and does not interfere with the normal use of the bag.

When it is desired to store or transport the bag, the panel 21 is arranged to assume the position illustrated in FIG. 1 in which the panel 21 overlies the upper section 11. Beginning at the foot end of the bag the bag is then rolled up towards the head end and into the pocket defined by the panel 21 so as to be fully received therein. Thereafter, the draw cord 23 may be drawn as illustrated in FIG. 3 to complete the closure.

It will be apparent that in this condition the bag forms a self contained convenient package which is readily transportable and storable and additionally may be used as a bolster.

It will be understood that the panel 21 alternatively may be stitched to the foot portion of the bag so that it opens toward the head portion and, in such event, rolling up of the bag would begin at the head portion.

Various changes coming within the spirit of my invention may suggest themselves to those skilled in the art; hence, I do not wish to be limited to the specific embodiment shown and described or uses mentioned, but intend the same to be merely exemplary, the scope of my invention being limited only by the appended claims.
