A case for a portable sewing machine comprising a first cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with a base box on which a main body of the sewing machine is mounted, and a second cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with the other end of the first cover member. The width defined by said two cover members is similar to the height of the base box and the outer surface of the second cover member is used as a table on which the sewing is operated.

Claims:
What I claim is
1. A case for a portable sewing machine comprising a first cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with a base box on which a main body of the sewing machine is mounted, and a second cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with the other end of the first cover member, wherein the width defined by said two cover members is approximately equal to the height of the base box said members being pivoted from a vertical position in which they are positioned adjacent each other on top of said box to a horizontal position in which they are stacked on top of each other along side said box with the outer surface of said second cover member being coplanar with the top of said box so as to be usable as a serving table for a machine mounted on said box.

A case for a portable sewing machine comprising a first cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with a base box on which a main body of the sewing machine is mounted, and a second cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with the other end of the first cover member, wherein the width defined by said two cover members is approximately equal to the height of the base box said members being pivoted from a vertical position in which they are positioned adjacent each other on top of said box to a horizontal position in which they are stacked on top of each other along side said box with the outer surface of said second cover member being coplanar with the top of said box so as to be usable as a serving table for a machine mounted on said box.
Description:
This invention relates to a case for a sewing machine, more particularly to a case for a portable sewing machine which is usable as a table on which the sewing is operated.
Hitherto, many kinds of cases for a portable sewing machine have been proposed. These cases, however, have disadvantage such that assembly is difficult, the size is large and the operation is complicated.
It is, therefore, one object of this invention to provide a case for a portable sewing machine simple in construction and small in size.
It is another object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine in which the case is connected pivotally to a base box of the sewing machine and is usable as a sewing table.
It is a further object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine wherein two cover members are connected pivotally each other, one of which being connected pivotally to a base box of the sewing machine at the free end thereof, and the width of a case provided by said two cover members is determined substantially similar to the height of the base box.
It is still another object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine comprising a first cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with a base box on which a main body of the sewing machine is mounted, and a second cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with the other end of the first cover member, wherein the width defined by said two cover members is similar to the height of the base box and the outer surface of the second cover member is used as a sewing table.
Additional objects as well as features and advantages of the invention will become evident from consideration of the description set forth hereinafter when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the sewing machine which is encased in the case according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the case shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a side view for explaining the operational state of the sewing machine; and
FIG. 4 is a schematic view for explaining the open or closed condition of the case of this invention.
In the drawing, numeral 1 generally designates a main body of the sewing machine. 2 is a base box on which the main body of the sewing machine is provided. A cover member 3 having channel-shaped cross section is connected pivotally at one end thereof to the base box through pins 4. At the other end, the cover member 3 is connected pivotally with one end of the other cover member 5 having channel-shaped cross section through a hinge 6. A case for encasing the main body of the sewing machine is composed of said cover members 3 and 5, said two cover members being positioned in side by side relation. The width l defined by the cover members 3 and 5 is determined similar to the height l'of the base box. It is important that the construction of the sewing machine according to the invention is such that when the cover members 3 and 5 are laid down horizontally as shown in FIG. 3, the cover member 5 is stacked on the cover member 3 and the outer surface of the cover member 3 coincides with a supporting surface of the base box 2 and the outer surface of the cover member 5 coincides with the upper surface of the base box 2 on which the main body 1 of the sewing machine is mounted. 7 is a connecter provided on the free end of the cover member 5 for connecting both cover members 3 and 5 when they are assembled as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3. 8 is a handle for transporting the case for the sewing machine.
As apparent from the above explanation, in the case according to the invention, the main body 1 of the sewing machine can be encased easily by assembling the cover members 3 and 5.
Moreover, the outer surface of the cover member 5 can be used as a sewing table when it is laid down horizontally.
While the invention has been shown and described with reference to preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific form and elements of the embodiment, and that many changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Hitherto, many kinds of cases for a portable sewing machine have been proposed. These cases, however, have disadvantage such that assembly is difficult, the size is large and the operation is complicated.
It is, therefore, one object of this invention to provide a case for a portable sewing machine simple in construction and small in size.
It is another object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine in which the case is connected pivotally to a base box of the sewing machine and is usable as a sewing table.
It is a further object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine wherein two cover members are connected pivotally each other, one of which being connected pivotally to a base box of the sewing machine at the free end thereof, and the width of a case provided by said two cover members is determined substantially similar to the height of the base box.
It is still another object to provide a case for a portable sewing machine comprising a first cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with a base box on which a main body of the sewing machine is mounted, and a second cover member connected pivotally at one end thereof with the other end of the first cover member, wherein the width defined by said two cover members is similar to the height of the base box and the outer surface of the second cover member is used as a sewing table.
Additional objects as well as features and advantages of the invention will become evident from consideration of the description set forth hereinafter when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the sewing machine which is encased in the case according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the case shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a side view for explaining the operational state of the sewing machine; and
FIG. 4 is a schematic view for explaining the open or closed condition of the case of this invention.
In the drawing, numeral 1 generally designates a main body of the sewing machine. 2 is a base box on which the main body of the sewing machine is provided. A cover member 3 having channel-shaped cross section is connected pivotally at one end thereof to the base box through pins 4. At the other end, the cover member 3 is connected pivotally with one end of the other cover member 5 having channel-shaped cross section through a hinge 6. A case for encasing the main body of the sewing machine is composed of said cover members 3 and 5, said two cover members being positioned in side by side relation. The width l defined by the cover members 3 and 5 is determined similar to the height l'of the base box. It is important that the construction of the sewing machine according to the invention is such that when the cover members 3 and 5 are laid down horizontally as shown in FIG. 3, the cover member 5 is stacked on the cover member 3 and the outer surface of the cover member 3 coincides with a supporting surface of the base box 2 and the outer surface of the cover member 5 coincides with the upper surface of the base box 2 on which the main body 1 of the sewing machine is mounted. 7 is a connecter provided on the free end of the cover member 5 for connecting both cover members 3 and 5 when they are assembled as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3. 8 is a handle for transporting the case for the sewing machine.
