Claims:
What I claim is
1. A novelty item comprising: a simulated flower having a plurality of radially extending petal portions; a doll figure including legs with feet members and adapted to be removably retained generally centrally of said flower, and anchoring means secured to said flower cooperating with the feet members of said doll figure to removably hold said doll figure in position, said anchoring means include a lower wall cooperating with the undersurface of the feet members of said doll figure for limiting its downward movement when positioned therein, a ledge spaced away from said lower wall for overlying the toe ends of said feet members for holding said doll in a standing position, and upright walls cooperating with the midportion of said doll figure for affording lateral support thereto.
2. The novelty item as set forth in claim 1, wherein the feet members are fabricated of pliable material and removably clamped between opposing portions of said lower wall and said ledge.
3. The novelty item as set forth in claim 2, including additionally: fastening means secured to said simulated flower above its center of gravity for affixing the flower and its doll figure to an article of clothing.

A novelty item comprising: a simulated flower having a plurality of radially extending petal portions; a doll figure including legs with feet members and adapted to be removably retained generally centrally of said flower, and anchoring means secured to said flower cooperating with the feet members of said doll figure to removably hold said doll figure in position, said anchoring means include a lower wall cooperating with the undersurface of the feet members of said doll figure for limiting its downward movement when positioned therein, a ledge spaced away from said lower wall for overlying the toe ends of said feet members for holding said doll in a standing position, and upright walls cooperating with the midportion of said doll figure for affording lateral support thereto.
2. The novelty item as set forth in claim 1, wherein the feet members are fabricated of pliable material and removably clamped between opposing portions of said lower wall and said ledge.
3. The novelty item as set forth in claim 2, including additionally: fastening means secured to said simulated flower above its center of gravity for affixing the flower and its doll figure to an article of clothing.
Description:
This invention relates in general to novelty items. In particular, this invention relates to a multipurpose feminine novelty item which may be worn as a brooch and utilized as a toy, and which is particularly suited for use by young children.
Prior art jewelry and similar decorations for the apparel and person of young girls, generally comprise scaled down replicas of similar articles worn by adults and thus are usually of limited utility to children.
This invention provides a dual purpose child's novelty item which may be worn as a decorative article and which is utilitarian as a toy.
Accordingly, the novelty item of the invention comprises a simulated flower having a central flower portion forming a cavity for removably receiving a small doll figure suitable for use as a toy. The flower includes anchoring means for preventing the doll figure from being fortuitously displaced from the cavity. A pin clasp is fixed to the flower for securing it and the doll figure to an article of clothing, such as a blouse or dress.
Accordingly, the primary object of this invention is to provide a multipurpose novelty item which may be worn by a child as a decoration, or used as a toy.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simulated flower having a removable doll figure wherein the flower and its doll figure may be worn as a brooch.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent to those versed in the novelty art upon an understanding of the following detailed description of the apparatus of the invention taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which a preferred embodiment of the novelty apparatus is shown, and wherein:

FIG. 3 is a partial cross-sectional, side elevational view of the novelty item, with a portion thereof shown exploded and another portion shown in phantom;

Turning now to the drawings, as best seen in FIG. 1, the novelty item of the invention, generally referred to by reference numeral 10, comprises a simulated flower 12 having a centrally disposed, generally cylindrical, walled member 14 which forms a portion of the flower and defines a cavity 16 removably receiving a small doll figure 18.
As best seen in FIGS. 3 and 4, flower portion 14 includes a lower end 36 having an aperture 37 for receiving a stem 32. The stem is secured in the flower by captivating the latter between a pair of spaced-apart, enlarged stem elements including a lower element 34 and an upper element 50.
The simulated flower comprises two separate petal members 24 and 26, each of which has three extending petals 20. The petal members define centrally located apertures 28 and 30 respectively, which are threadingly received on flower stem 32, thereby forming adjacent petal layers directly beneath lower end 36. In addition, the flower includes a leaf member 40 having a plurality of radially extending leaves 41 and forming a central aperture 42 which may also be threaded on to stem 32. The leaf member is disposed subjacent petal member 26 and the members are retained in position relative to the stem by being captivated between flower end 36 and element 34. Preferably, the flower is assembled by threading the leaf and petal members on the stem and subsequently forming lower element 34.
A number of simulated bird figures 47 may be suitably secured to several of the petals 20 by a barbed fastener 48 which cooperates with an opening 50 through each such petal.
As best seen in FIG. 5, a pedestal 58 is provided for removably captivating the doll figure in cavity 16. The pedestal includes a hollow, lower cylindrical post 56 having an integrally formed lower wall 60. A pair of arcuate sidewalls 62 and 64 extend generally vertically from lower wall 60 and carry inwardly oriented flanges 66 which, as noted specifically below, provide lateral support for the doll figure. The curvature of the sidewalls is generally similar to the curvature of flower portion 14 and the pedestal is carried therein by threading an upper section 52 of the stem 32 through the cylindrical part 56 until element 50 abuts thereagainst, and subsequently forming a button 54 at the top of the stem. The upright sidewalls are connected by narrow arcuate rails 68 and 70, having horizontal ledges 72 and 74, respectively. Turning now to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, doll figure 18 includes a head member 80 having hair 81 which may be combed and fashioned by a child. The figure also includes a pair of movable arms 82 and 84, a torso 86, and feet 88. The doll is preferably constructed of a pliable material such as vinyl and is retained within the flower cavity by being firmly inserted into the pedestal so that the undersurface of feet 88 engage lower wall 60 of the pedestal, which defines its downward limit of movement. The feet are wedged into the pedestal between the lower ends of sidewalls 62 and 64 such that ledge 72 overlies the toe ends of the feet, and ledge 74 partially overlies the heel portions of the feet.
The doll is laterally stabilized in the pedestal by the flanges 66 which cooperate with the torso 86 of the doll figure, as most clearly seen in FIG. 4. Thus, the doll may be removed from the simulated flower for use as an article of play and may be selectively returned to the flower by inserting the feet firmly into the pedestal whereby the doll will stand in an erect position.
The novelty item of the invention further includes a clasp 96 which is secured by suitable means such as rivets 98 to the upper part of central flower portion 14 so that the center of gravity of the flower is below the clasp whereby the flower will normally hang in an upright attitude. The clasp includes a straight pin 100 having a pointed end 102 which may be inserted through an article of clothing. The pin is pivoted at end 104 and the clasp includes a hook 106 adjacent end 102 for keeping the pin closed.
What has been described is a simulated flower suitable to be worn as a brooch which includes a removable doll figure usable as a separate toy item.
It is obvious that upon study by those skilled in the art, the disclosed invention may be altered or modified without departing from its inventive concept.

This invention provides a dual purpose child's novelty item which may be worn as a decorative article and which is utilitarian as a toy.
Accordingly, the novelty item of the invention comprises a simulated flower having a central flower portion forming a cavity for removably receiving a small doll figure suitable for use as a toy. The flower includes anchoring means for preventing the doll figure from being fortuitously displaced from the cavity. A pin clasp is fixed to the flower for securing it and the doll figure to an article of clothing, such as a blouse or dress.
Accordingly, the primary object of this invention is to provide a multipurpose novelty item which may be worn by a child as a decoration, or used as a toy.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simulated flower having a removable doll figure wherein the flower and its doll figure may be worn as a brooch.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent to those versed in the novelty art upon an understanding of the following detailed description of the apparatus of the invention taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which a preferred embodiment of the novelty apparatus is shown, and wherein:

Turning now to the drawings, as best seen in FIG. 1, the novelty item of the invention, generally referred to by reference numeral 10, comprises a simulated flower 12 having a centrally disposed, generally cylindrical, walled member 14 which forms a portion of the flower and defines a cavity 16 removably receiving a small doll figure 18.
As best seen in FIGS. 3 and 4, flower portion 14 includes a lower end 36 having an aperture 37 for receiving a stem 32. The stem is secured in the flower by captivating the latter between a pair of spaced-apart, enlarged stem elements including a lower element 34 and an upper element 50.
The simulated flower comprises two separate petal members 24 and 26, each of which has three extending petals 20. The petal members define centrally located apertures 28 and 30 respectively, which are threadingly received on flower stem 32, thereby forming adjacent petal layers directly beneath lower end 36. In addition, the flower includes a leaf member 40 having a plurality of radially extending leaves 41 and forming a central aperture 42 which may also be threaded on to stem 32. The leaf member is disposed subjacent petal member 26 and the members are retained in position relative to the stem by being captivated between flower end 36 and element 34. Preferably, the flower is assembled by threading the leaf and petal members on the stem and subsequently forming lower element 34.
A number of simulated bird figures 47 may be suitably secured to several of the petals 20 by a barbed fastener 48 which cooperates with an opening 50 through each such petal.
As best seen in FIG. 5, a pedestal 58 is provided for removably captivating the doll figure in cavity 16. The pedestal includes a hollow, lower cylindrical post 56 having an integrally formed lower wall 60. A pair of arcuate sidewalls 62 and 64 extend generally vertically from lower wall 60 and carry inwardly oriented flanges 66 which, as noted specifically below, provide lateral support for the doll figure. The curvature of the sidewalls is generally similar to the curvature of flower portion 14 and the pedestal is carried therein by threading an upper section 52 of the stem 32 through the cylindrical part 56 until element 50 abuts thereagainst, and subsequently forming a button 54 at the top of the stem. The upright sidewalls are connected by narrow arcuate rails 68 and 70, having horizontal ledges 72 and 74, respectively. Turning now to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, doll figure 18 includes a head member 80 having hair 81 which may be combed and fashioned by a child.
