Abstract:
A sleevelet which can be worn as a false cuff together with a short-sleeve shirt is disclosed. The sleevelet provides a dressed-up look and gives an observer the appearance that the user is wearing a long-sleeve shirt. The sleevelet or "false cuff" comprises a cuff means or section and a forearm gripping means which are preferably attached together by stitching means.

Claims:
What we claim is
1. A sleevelet comprising in combination cuff means, forearm gripping means and means interconnecting said cuff means and said forearm gripping means, said forearm gripping means engaging the user's forearm when the sleevelet is worn to permit the user to thereby position said cuff means adjacent to the user's wrist, said means interconnecting said cuff means and said forearm gripping means comprising a sleeve portion, means connecting one end of said sleeve portion to a rear edge portion of said cuff means and means connecting the other end of said sleeve portion to a forward edge portion of said forearm gripping means, a forward end portion of said cuff means being outwardly flared and ruffled and wherein the inner end of said cuff means adjacent to said sleeve portion is gathered.
2. A sleevelet comprising first, second and third sections, said first section being adapted to provide a cuff and including a first elongated member having opposed parallel side edges and opposed parallel end edges, said second section being adapted to provide a sleeve portion and including a second elongated member having opposed parallel side edges and opposed substantially parallel end edges, said third section being adapted to provide a forearm gripping portion and including a third elongated member having opposed parallel side edges one of which is longer than the other and opposed concave end edges extending between said side edges, said longer edge of said third elongated member being joined to one side edge of said second elongated member, one side of said first member being joined to the other side edge of said second elongated member, said opposed concave end edges of said third member being joined together to form said third member into a frustoconical configuration, and cooperating fastening means disposed on respectively opposite end portions of said first member for securing the same in cylindrical configuration.
3. A sleevelet according to claim 2 wherein the first elongated member has opposed side edge portions and opposed end edges, said member being gathered along one side edge to impart a ruffled configuration to said first member between said opposed end edges thereof.
4. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said cooperating fastening means is a cuff link.
5. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said cooperating fastening means is a button and buttonhole.
6. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said forearm gripping portion is an elastic material.
1. A sleevelet comprising in combination cuff means, forearm gripping means and means interconnecting said cuff means and said forearm gripping means, said forearm gripping means engaging the user's forearm when the sleevelet is worn to permit the user to thereby position said cuff means adjacent to the user's wrist, said means interconnecting said cuff means and said forearm gripping means comprising a sleeve portion, means connecting one end of said sleeve portion to a rear edge portion of said cuff means and means connecting the other end of said sleeve portion to a forward edge portion of said forearm gripping means, a forward end portion of said cuff means being outwardly flared and ruffled and wherein the inner end of said cuff means adjacent to said sleeve portion is gathered.
2. A sleevelet comprising first, second and third sections, said first section being adapted to provide a cuff and including a first elongated member having opposed parallel side edges and opposed parallel end edges, said second section being adapted to provide a sleeve portion and including a second elongated member having opposed parallel side edges and opposed substantially parallel end edges, said third section being adapted to provide a forearm gripping portion and including a third elongated member having opposed parallel side edges one of which is longer than the other and opposed concave end edges extending between said side edges, said longer edge of said third elongated member being joined to one side edge of said second elongated member, one side of said first member being joined to the other side edge of said second elongated member, said opposed concave end edges of said third member being joined together to form said third member into a frustoconical configuration, and cooperating fastening means disposed on respectively opposite end portions of said first member for securing the same in cylindrical configuration.
3. A sleevelet according to claim 2 wherein the first elongated member has opposed side edge portions and opposed end edges, said member being gathered along one side edge to impart a ruffled configuration to said first member between said opposed end edges thereof.
4. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said cooperating fastening means is a cuff link.
5. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said cooperating fastening means is a button and buttonhole.
6. A sleevelet according to claim 2, wherein said forearm gripping portion is an elastic material.
Description:
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to sleevelets and more particularly concerns a sleevelet of the type which is useful for providing a false cuff and that may be worn directly on the forearm.
One of the primary objects of the present invention is to provide a sleevelet which has a novel structural arrangement enabling it to be employed as a false cuff for use by men and women. A still further object of the invention is t provide a sleevelet of "false cuff" which can be worn with a short-sleeve shirt and regular coat or jacket so as to give the user a well-dressed appearance. In this regard, it is a further object thereof to provide a sleevelet that is conveniently usable by salesmen, executives, etc., who like the comfort of short sleeves and who need to be well-dressed on short notice, such as for an office call, luncheon, or dinner appointment.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a false cuff construction that is especially suitable for ladies who can use the construction, as matched with a scarf or other accessories, to attractively "dress up" a coat, suit, or dress.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a sleevelet or false cuff which is simple to launder and/or clean, which does not require attachment to another garment, and which does not need to be detached or ripped from an associated piece in order to be removed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sleevelet or false cuff conforming with all the preceding objects and which additionally is capable of being readily supplied at low cost for widespread commercial use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
These as well as other objects which will become apparent as the description proceeds, are implemented by the novel sleevelet or false cuff of the present invention which generally comprises a cuff means or section, and a forearm section including gripping means. The forearm section, in part, serves as a means for attaching the cuff means with the gripping means. The forearm gripping means according to a preferred embodiment of this invention comprises a flexible material which has an elastic quality which permits it to conform to forearms of varying sizes.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a sleevelet constructed in accordance with the invention and having a button featured cuff;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the sleevelet, as shown in FIG. 1, prior to assembly thereof in tubular formation;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a sleeve construction in accordance herewith but the cuff is gathered; and,
FIG. 4 is a plan view of a sleevelet, as shown in FIG. 3, prior to assembly thereof in an essentially tubular form.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED INVENTIVE EMBODIMENT
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, the sleevelet, as shown in FIG. 1, generally comprises cuff means 6, forearm gripping means 1 and a portion 4 interconnecting the cuff means and the forearm gripping means. The sleevelet is worn on the arm of the user, with the forearm gripping means engaging the user's forearm to permit the user to thereby position the cuff means 6 adjacent his or her wrist.
According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, the portion 4 interconnecting the cuff means 6 and the forearm gripping means 1 is constructed as a sleeve portion 4. One end 3 of the sleeve portion 4 is connected to a rear edge portion 5 of the cuff means 1 by stitching, although means other than stitching can also be employed. The other end 7 of the sleeve portion 4 is connected to a forward edge portion 9 of the forearm gripping means 1. Although the sleevelet as illustrated preferably includes a sleeve portion 4, it should be understood that sleeve portion 4 could be deleted if desired, in which case the cuff means 6 would be directly connected to the forearm gripping means 1 by a suitable attachment means such as a seam.
Referring now to FIG. 2, it will be seen that prior to actual assembly of the sleevelet, the sleevelet comprises separate first, second and third sections to respectively form the cuff means, the sleeve portion and the forearm gripping means. The first section or cuff means 6 has opposed parallel side edges 22 and 26 and opposed parallel end edges 42 and 44. The second section 4 is adapted to provide a sleeve portion which includes an elongated member having opposed parallel side edges 26 and 28 and opposed substantially parallel end edges 38 and 40. The third section is adapted to provide the forearm gripping means 1 and comprises an elongated member having opposed parallel side edges 30 and 32, wherein side edge 30 is longer than the other side 32. This elongated member also has opposed concave end edges 34 and 36, extending between the side edges 30 and 32.
As is illustrated, the long edge 30 of the third section 1 is initially joined to one side 28 of the second section 4, and one side of the first section 6 is joined to the other side 26 of the second elongated member 4.
Now, in order to finally form the sleevelet as shown in FIG. 1, the opposed concave edges 34 and 36 of the third section are joined together such that the third member takes a frustoconical configuration. Cooperating fastening means are disposed on respectively opposite end portions 42 and 44 of the first section for securing the same in a cylindrical configuration. Such fastening means preferably comprises a buttonhole 10 at one end 44 of the cuff means 6 and another buttonhole 12 at the opposite end 42 thereof. A button 14 is secured to the outer face of the cuff means 6 adjacent to one end of buttonhole 10 as illustrated in FIG. 2 and, if the cuff is to be fastened together in the usual manner, button 14 is inserted through buttonhole 12 in the conventional manner as shown in FIG. 1. If a cuff link is to be employed, all the user need do is to detach the button 14 from its position whereupon the link may be passed through buttonholes 10 and 12. Instead of buttons and buttonholes, and/or cuff links, conventional snap fasteners and snaps or any other conventional securing means may also be employed.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, the first elongated member includes opposed side edge portions 22 and 26 and opposed end edges 42 and 44 similar to the embodiment of FIG. 1. However, this member is gathered along one side edge 26 to impart a ruffled configuration thereto between the opposed end edges 42 and 44 thereof. The opposed end edges of the first, second and third members are then joined together to form a sleevelet as shown in FIG. 3 in the fashion described with respect to FIG. 2. A dressier appearance is, of course, achieved with this variant embodiment.
The forearm gripping means 1 is preferably made of an elastic material which permits this portion of the sleevelet to be stretched so as to accommodate and conform to forearms of varying sizes. The elastic forearm gripping means 1 engages the user's forearm to permit the user to thereby position the cuff means 6 adjacent to his or her wrist. The elastic forearm gripping means enables easy removal of the sleevelet, further provides extreme comfort when the sleevelet is worn as the gripping means and will freely yield to accommodate the various movements imposed by the user. The remaining cuff means and sleeve portion can be constructed of any suitable fabric.
As should now be apparent, the objects initially set forth at the outset to this specification have been successfully achieved.
The present invention relates generally to sleevelets and more particularly concerns a sleevelet of the type which is useful for providing a false cuff and that may be worn directly on the forearm.
One of the primary objects of the present invention is to provide a sleevelet which has a novel structural arrangement enabling it to be employed as a false cuff for use by men and women. A still further object of the invention is t provide a sleevelet of "false cuff" which can be worn with a short-sleeve shirt and regular coat or jacket so as to give the user a well-dressed appearance. In this regard, it is a further object thereof to provide a sleevelet that is conveniently usable by salesmen, executives, etc., who like the comfort of short sleeves and who need to be well-dressed on short notice, such as for an office call, luncheon, or dinner appointment.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a false cuff construction that is especially suitable for ladies who can use the construction, as matched with a scarf or other accessories, to attractively "dress up" a coat, suit, or dress.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a sleevelet or false cuff which is simple to launder and/or clean, which does not require attachment to another garment, and which does not need to be detached or ripped from an associated piece in order to be removed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a sleevelet or false cuff conforming with all the preceding objects and which additionally is capable of being readily supplied at low cost for widespread commercial use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
These as well as other objects which will become apparent as the description proceeds, are implemented by the novel sleevelet or false cuff of the present invention which generally comprises a cuff means or section, and a forearm section including gripping means. The forearm section, in part, serves as a means for attaching the cuff means with the gripping means. The forearm gripping means according to a preferred embodiment of this invention comprises a flexible material which has an elastic quality which permits it to conform to forearms of varying sizes.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED INVENTIVE EMBODIMENT
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, the sleevelet, as shown in FIG. 1, generally comprises cuff means 6, forearm gripping means 1 and a portion 4 interconnecting the cuff means and the forearm gripping means. The sleevelet is worn on the arm of the user, with the forearm gripping means engaging the user's forearm to permit the user to thereby position the cuff means 6 adjacent his or her wrist.
According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, the portion 4 interconnecting the cuff means 6 and the forearm gripping means 1 is constructed as a sleeve portion 4. One end 3 of the sleeve portion 4 is connected to a rear edge portion 5 of the cuff means 1 by stitching, although means other than stitching can also be employed. The other end 7 of the sleeve portion 4 is connected to a forward edge portion 9 of the forearm gripping means 1. Although the sleevelet as illustrated preferably includes a sleeve portion 4, it should be understood that sleeve portion 4 could be deleted if desired, in which case the cuff means 6 would be directly connected to the forearm gripping means 1 by a suitable attachment means such as a seam.
Referring now to FIG. 2, it will be seen that prior to actual assembly of the sleevelet, the sleevelet comprises separate first, second and third sections to respectively form the cuff means, the sleeve portion and the forearm gripping means. The first section or cuff means 6 has opposed parallel side edges 22 and 26 and opposed parallel end edges 42 and 44. The second section 4 is adapted to provide a sleeve portion which includes an elongated member having opposed parallel side edges 26 and 28 and opposed substantially parallel end edges 38 and 40. The third section is adapted to provide the forearm gripping means 1 and comprises an elongated member having opposed parallel side edges 30 and 32, wherein side edge 30 is longer than the other side 32. This elongated member also has opposed concave end edges 34 and 36, extending between the side edges 30 and 32.
As is illustrated, the long edge 30 of the third section 1 is initially joined to one side 28 of the second section 4, and one side of the first section 6 is joined to the other side 26 of the second elongated member 4.
Now, in order to finally form the sleevelet as shown in FIG. 1, the opposed concave edges 34 and 36 of the third section are joined together such that the third member takes a frustoconical configuration. Cooperating fastening means are disposed on respectively opposite end portions 42 and 44 of the first section for securing the same in a cylindrical configuration. Such fastening means preferably comprises a buttonhole 10 at one end 44 of the cuff means 6 and another buttonhole 12 at the opposite end 42 thereof. A button 14 is secured to the outer face of the cuff means 6 adjacent to one end of buttonhole 10 as illustrated in FIG. 2 and, if the cuff is to be fastened together in the usual manner, button 14 is inserted through buttonhole 12 in the conventional manner as shown in FIG. 1. If a cuff link is to be employed, all the user need do is to detach the button 14 from its position whereupon the link may be passed through buttonholes 10 and 12. Instead of buttons and buttonholes, and/or cuff links, conventional snap fasteners and snaps or any other conventional securing means may also be employed.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, the first elongated member includes opposed side edge portions 22 and 26 and opposed end edges 42 and 44 similar to the embodiment of FIG. 1. However, this member is gathered along one side edge 26 to impart a ruffled configuration thereto between the opposed end edges 42 and 44 thereof. The opposed end edges of the first, second and third members are then joined together to form a sleevelet as shown in FIG. 3 in the fashion described with respect to FIG. 2. A dressier appearance is, of course, achieved with this variant embodiment.
The forearm gripping means 1 is preferably made of an elastic material which permits this portion of the sleevelet to be stretched so as to accommodate and conform to forearms of varying sizes. The elastic forearm gripping means 1 engages the user's forearm to permit the user to thereby position the cuff means 6 adjacent to his or her wrist. The elastic forearm gripping means enables easy removal of the sleevelet, further provides extreme comfort when the sleevelet is worn as the gripping means and will freely yield to accommodate the various movements imposed by the user. The remaining cuff means and sleeve portion can be constructed of any suitable fabric.
As should now be apparent, the objects initially set forth at the outset to this specification have been successfully achieved.
