Claims:
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by letters patent is
1. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-shaped frame members, flexible web means linking crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, there being an opening in the web means, a bag attached to the web means in communication with the opening, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when said frame is in open position, and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board.
2. A hunter's stool as in claim 1 wherein a strap is provided, end portions of the strap being attached to respective frame members adjacent crossbar portions thereof, the frame members being urged to closed position when the central portion of the strap is raised, loading the strap in tension.
3. A hunter's stool as in claim 1 wherein the frame board and the seat are swingable away from the crossbar portions to expose the openings in the web means.
4. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-shaped frame members, flexible web means linking crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, there being an opening in the web means, a bag attached to the web means in communication with the opening, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when said frame board is in open position, and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, one edge portion of the frame board being linked to the crossbar portion of one of the frame members by flexible strip means, an opposite edge portion of the frame board being releasably attachable to the crossbar portion of the other frame member so that when the seat is loaded the frame members swing in a direction to load the frame board in tension.
5. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted frame members having leg portions and crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board.
6. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-frame members having leg portions connected by crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members and securing receptacle thereto, means pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members for swinging between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board mounted on one said crossbar portion an releasably mountable on the other said crossbar portion, a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, and a carrying strap having portions adjacent its ends secured to respective ones of said U-frame members with an intermediate portion extending in running relation to a crossbar portion such that when the frame board is released from said other crossbar portion and the hunter's stool is picked up by the intermediate strap portion, the strap tends to run relative to a crossbar portion and the crossbar are urged toward each other.
7. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-frame members having leg portions connected by crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members and securing a receptacle thereto, means pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members for swinging between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board mounted on one said crossbar portion and releasably mountable on the other said crossbar portion, a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, a carrying strap having portions adjacent its ends secured to respective ones of said U-frame members with an intermediate portion extending in running relation to a crossbar portion such that when the frame board is released from said other crossbar portion and the hunter's stool is picked up by the intermediate strap portion, the strap tends to run relative to a crossbar portion and the crossbar portions are urged toward each other, the portions adjacent the ends of the carrying strap are secured to respective ones of said U-frame members at points adjacent opposite ends of a diameter of said seat when same is mounted on said crossbar portions, said intermediate portion of said strap being of a length that when the frame board is mounted on said crossbar portions, said intermediate portion can extend from the place of strap fastening to one U-frame member substantially diametrally over the seat to the place of strap fastening to the other U-frame member and thence to and over said one U-frame member and returning underneath same to the place of fastening to said other U-frame member, and means for releasably fastening said intermediate portion to said other U-frame member whereby said strap may function as a baillike handle for carrying said stool with the frame board mounted on both crossbar portions when the intermediate portion is secured by said releasable fastening means and may function as stool folding and carrying means when said frame board is not mounted on both crossbar portions.
1. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-shaped frame members, flexible web means linking crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, there being an opening in the web means, a bag attached to the web means in communication with the opening, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when said frame is in open position, and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board.
2. A hunter's stool as in claim 1 wherein a strap is provided, end portions of the strap being attached to respective frame members adjacent crossbar portions thereof, the frame members being urged to closed position when the central portion of the strap is raised, loading the strap in tension.
3. A hunter's stool as in claim 1 wherein the frame board and the seat are swingable away from the crossbar portions to expose the openings in the web means.
4. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-shaped frame members, flexible web means linking crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, there being an opening in the web means, a bag attached to the web means in communication with the opening, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when said frame board is in open position, and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, one edge portion of the frame board being linked to the crossbar portion of one of the frame members by flexible strip means, an opposite edge portion of the frame board being releasably attachable to the crossbar portion of the other frame member so that when the seat is loaded the frame members swing in a direction to load the frame board in tension.
5. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted frame members having leg portions and crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members, means for pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members to swing between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board releasably mounted on the crossbar portions and a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board.
6. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-frame members having leg portions connected by crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members and securing receptacle thereto, means pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members for swinging between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board mounted on one said crossbar portion an releasably mountable on the other said crossbar portion, a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, and a carrying strap having portions adjacent its ends secured to respective ones of said U-frame members with an intermediate portion extending in running relation to a crossbar portion such that when the frame board is released from said other crossbar portion and the hunter's stool is picked up by the intermediate strap portion, the strap tends to run relative to a crossbar portion and the crossbar are urged toward each other.
7. A hunter's stool which comprises a pair of inverted U-frame members having leg portions connected by crossbar portions, flexible web means linking the crossbar portions of the frame members and securing a receptacle thereto, means pivotally connecting leg portions of the frame members for swinging between an open position in which the web means is extended and a folded position, a frame board mounted on one said crossbar portion and releasably mountable on the other said crossbar portion, a seat rotatably mounted on the frame board, a carrying strap having portions adjacent its ends secured to respective ones of said U-frame members with an intermediate portion extending in running relation to a crossbar portion such that when the frame board is released from said other crossbar portion and the hunter's stool is picked up by the intermediate strap portion, the strap tends to run relative to a crossbar portion and the crossbar portions are urged toward each other, the portions adjacent the ends of the carrying strap are secured to respective ones of said U-frame members at points adjacent opposite ends of a diameter of said seat when same is mounted on said crossbar portions, said intermediate portion of said strap being of a length that when the frame board is mounted on said crossbar portions, said intermediate portion can extend from the place of strap fastening to one U-frame member substantially diametrally over the seat to the place of strap fastening to the other U-frame member and thence to and over said one U-frame member and returning underneath same to the place of fastening to said other U-frame member, and means for releasably fastening said intermediate portion to said other U-frame member whereby said strap may function as a baillike handle for carrying said stool with the frame board mounted on both crossbar portions when the intermediate portion is secured by said releasable fastening means and may function as stool folding and carrying means when said frame board is not mounted on both crossbar portions.
Description:
This invention relates to a portable hunter's stool. More particularly, this invention relates to a hunter's stool having a built-in storage compartment.
An object of this invention is to provide a portable hunter's stool having a seat which turns to permit a hunter to conveniently survey the surrounding area for game and to follow or track a moving object with his gun or the like while seated thereon.
A further object of this invention is to provide such a portable hunter's stool in which the seat and a seat support form an openable closure for a storage compartment beneath the seat.
Briefly this invention provides a hunter's stool, the frame of which comprises inverted U-shaped members, having crossbar portions linked by a flexible web. The leg portions of the frame members are pivoted to swing between an open position in which the web is extended and a folded position. An opening is provided in the web, and a bag is attached to the web means in communication with the opening. A seat board is releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when in open position, and a seat is rotatably mounted on the seat board.
The above and other features and objects of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains from the following detailed description and the drawing, in which:

In the following detailed description and the drawings, like reference characters indicate like parts.
In FIGS. 1-6 inclusive is shown a hunter'2 stool 12 constructed in accordance with an embodiment of this invention. The stool 12 includes inverted U-shaped frame members 13 and 14, the frame member 13 including leg portions 16 and 17 (FIG. 1) and a crossbar portion 18, the frame member 14 including leg portions 19 and 21 and a crossbar portion 22. The frame members are hinged together by means of aligned pivot pins 23 and 24 (FIG. 3), the pin 23 extending through openings in the leg portions 17 and 21, the pin 24 extending through openings in the leg portions 16 and 19 so that the frame members 13 and 14 can swing between the upright position shown in FIGS. 1-5 inclusive and the folded position shown in FIG. 6. Lower ends of the leg portions carry tips of rubber or the like which can rest on a supporting surface.
The crossbar portions 18 and 22 are linked by a bag 26. As shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the bag 26 includes a main sheet or strip 27 which includes portions 28 and 29 (FIG. 9) that extend around the crossbar portions 18 and 22, respectively, upright wall portions 31 and 32 and a curved bottom portion 33. Sidewall panels 34 and 36 (FIG. 10) are attached to edges of the bottom and upright portions of the main sheet. A cross panel 37 extends between the crossbar portions 18 and 22 and is attached to end portions 39 and 41 of the main sheet and to portions 42 an 43 of the main sheet which are adjacent the crossbar portions. In addition, the cross panel 37 is attached to upper edges of the sidewall panels 34 and 36 as shown in FIG. 10. An opening 38 is provided in the cross panel 37 for access to the interior of the bag 26. The panels of the bag can be formed of heavy fabric or the like and the various panels can be connected together by lines of stitching (not shown in detail).
The opening 38 in the cross panel 37 can be covered and closed by a seat assembly 46 (FIG. 4). The seat assembly 46 is supported by hinge strips 47 and 48 of fabric or the like, which are attached to the crossbar portion 18 by fasteners 49, one of which is shown in FIG. 9, and which are attached to a frame board 51 by fasteners 52 which also extend through openings in an angle-shaped positioning member 53. As shown in dot-dash lines in FIG. 9, the frame board can overlie the bag 26 with the positioning member 53 engaging the portion 28 of the main sheet 27 surrounding the crossbar portion 18 and with a stud 54, which is mounted in the crossbar portion 22, received in an opening 56 in the frame board 51.
Details of construction of the seat assembly 46 are shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. A bearing assembly 58 is mounted on the frame board 51. The bearing assembly 58 includes a first race plate 59 attached to the frame board 51 by fasteners 61 (FIG. 8) and a second race plate 62 which is attached to a rotating seat board 63 by fasteners 64. A return bend portion 65 of the race plate 59 overlies an annular inwardly directed flange 66 of the race plate 62 to hold the race plates in assembled relation surrounding the ball bearings 67 which run in grooves 68 and 69 in the race plates 59 and 62, respectively. A shim plate 71 is disposed between the race plate 62 and the rotating seat board 63. On the seat board 63 is mounted a resilient cushion pad 72 which is covered by an outer durable fabric facing 73, edges of which are attached to the rotating seat board 63 by staples 74 (FIG. 4). The seat board 63, the cushion pad 72 and the facing 73 form a revolving or turning seat 75 (FIGS. 1--3 inclusive). When the hunter's stool is in use in the upright position shown in FIGS. 1--3 inclusive, a hunter can sit on the revolving seat 75 and, while scanning the hunting area pivotally swing therewith to more comfortably conduct his surveillance of a wide hunting area of land and air and when taking aim at a bird or the like, can similarly swing on the seat 75 to follow the bird smoothly in preparation for taking a shot.
A strap 76 is provided for carrying the stool. One end of the strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 19 of the fame member 14 adjacent the crossbar portion 22 by means of a fastener 77. The other end of the strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 17 of the frame member 13 adjacent the crossbar portion 18 by means of a fastener 78 (FIG. 9). The strap 76 can extend under the crossbar portion 18 so that when the seat assembly 46 is in the lowered position shown in dot-dash lines in FIG. 2 and the central portion of the strap is raised as indicated in dot-dash lines at 76a, the frame members 13 and 14 fold together to the position shown in FIG. 6 for convenient carrying. The bag 26 can be used to hold game or the like. The fastener 77 (FIG. 2) by means of which one end of strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 19 is provided with a head which can act as a snap fastener portion. A cooperating snap fastener portion 79 is mounted on the strap 76 near the center thereof, and the snap fastener portions can be attached together to shorten the effective length of the strap, as shown in FIG. 4, for carrying the seat in folded condition.
Further, as shown in dash-dot-dot lines 76b in FIGS. 1 and 2, the strap 76 may extend from leg portion 17, to which it is secured by fastener 78, substantially directly over a diameter of seat 75 and snap fastener portion 79, mounted on the strap 76, cooperatively attached to the snap fastener head portion of fastener 77, secured to leg portion 19, thus serving as a carrying strap for the hunter's seat in erected, unfolded, upright condition. Preferably the length of the portion of strap 76 extending between fasteners 79 and 78, when so secured, is great enough to permit swinging of the strap to out-of-the-way location in which it does not interfere either with rotation of the seat in unison with a user seated thereon or with lifting of the seat assembly 46 to gain access to the interior of the bag 26.
The hunter's stool with revolving seat illustrated in the drawings and described above is subject to structural modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
An object of this invention is to provide a portable hunter's stool having a seat which turns to permit a hunter to conveniently survey the surrounding area for game and to follow or track a moving object with his gun or the like while seated thereon.
A further object of this invention is to provide such a portable hunter's stool in which the seat and a seat support form an openable closure for a storage compartment beneath the seat.
Briefly this invention provides a hunter's stool, the frame of which comprises inverted U-shaped members, having crossbar portions linked by a flexible web. The leg portions of the frame members are pivoted to swing between an open position in which the web is extended and a folded position. An opening is provided in the web, and a bag is attached to the web means in communication with the opening. A seat board is releasably mounted on the crossbar portions for closing and covering the opening when in open position, and a seat is rotatably mounted on the seat board.
The above and other features and objects of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains from the following detailed description and the drawing, in which:

In the following detailed description and the drawings, like reference characters indicate like parts.
In FIGS. 1-6 inclusive is shown a hunter'2 stool 12 constructed in accordance with an embodiment of this invention. The stool 12 includes inverted U-shaped frame members 13 and 14, the frame member 13 including leg portions 16 and 17 (FIG. 1) and a crossbar portion 18, the frame member 14 including leg portions 19 and 21 and a crossbar portion 22. The frame members are hinged together by means of aligned pivot pins 23 and 24 (FIG. 3), the pin 23 extending through openings in the leg portions 17 and 21, the pin 24 extending through openings in the leg portions 16 and 19 so that the frame members 13 and 14 can swing between the upright position shown in FIGS. 1-5 inclusive and the folded position shown in FIG. 6. Lower ends of the leg portions carry tips of rubber or the like which can rest on a supporting surface.
The crossbar portions 18 and 22 are linked by a bag 26. As shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, the bag 26 includes a main sheet or strip 27 which includes portions 28 and 29 (FIG. 9) that extend around the crossbar portions 18 and 22, respectively, upright wall portions 31 and 32 and a curved bottom portion 33. Sidewall panels 34 and 36 (FIG. 10) are attached to edges of the bottom and upright portions of the main sheet. A cross panel 37 extends between the crossbar portions 18 and 22 and is attached to end portions 39 and 41 of the main sheet and to portions 42 an 43 of the main sheet which are adjacent the crossbar portions. In addition, the cross panel 37 is attached to upper edges of the sidewall panels 34 and 36 as shown in FIG. 10. An opening 38 is provided in the cross panel 37 for access to the interior of the bag 26. The panels of the bag can be formed of heavy fabric or the like and the various panels can be connected together by lines of stitching (not shown in detail).
The opening 38 in the cross panel 37 can be covered and closed by a seat assembly 46 (FIG. 4). The seat assembly 46 is supported by hinge strips 47 and 48 of fabric or the like, which are attached to the crossbar portion 18 by fasteners 49, one of which is shown in FIG. 9, and which are attached to a frame board 51 by fasteners 52 which also extend through openings in an angle-shaped positioning member 53. As shown in dot-dash lines in FIG. 9, the frame board can overlie the bag 26 with the positioning member 53 engaging the portion 28 of the main sheet 27 surrounding the crossbar portion 18 and with a stud 54, which is mounted in the crossbar portion 22, received in an opening 56 in the frame board 51.
Details of construction of the seat assembly 46 are shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. A bearing assembly 58 is mounted on the frame board 51. The bearing assembly 58 includes a first race plate 59 attached to the frame board 51 by fasteners 61 (FIG. 8) and a second race plate 62 which is attached to a rotating seat board 63 by fasteners 64. A return bend portion 65 of the race plate 59 overlies an annular inwardly directed flange 66 of the race plate 62 to hold the race plates in assembled relation surrounding the ball bearings 67 which run in grooves 68 and 69 in the race plates 59 and 62, respectively. A shim plate 71 is disposed between the race plate 62 and the rotating seat board 63. On the seat board 63 is mounted a resilient cushion pad 72 which is covered by an outer durable fabric facing 73, edges of which are attached to the rotating seat board 63 by staples 74 (FIG. 4). The seat board 63, the cushion pad 72 and the facing 73 form a revolving or turning seat 75 (FIGS. 1--3 inclusive). When the hunter's stool is in use in the upright position shown in FIGS. 1--3 inclusive, a hunter can sit on the revolving seat 75 and, while scanning the hunting area pivotally swing therewith to more comfortably conduct his surveillance of a wide hunting area of land and air and when taking aim at a bird or the like, can similarly swing on the seat 75 to follow the bird smoothly in preparation for taking a shot.
A strap 76 is provided for carrying the stool. One end of the strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 19 of the fame member 14 adjacent the crossbar portion 22 by means of a fastener 77. The other end of the strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 17 of the frame member 13 adjacent the crossbar portion 18 by means of a fastener 78 (FIG. 9). The strap 76 can extend under the crossbar portion 18 so that when the seat assembly 46 is in the lowered position shown in dot-dash lines in FIG. 2 and the central portion of the strap is raised as indicated in dot-dash lines at 76a, the frame members 13 and 14 fold together to the position shown in FIG. 6 for convenient carrying. The bag 26 can be used to hold game or the like. The fastener 77 (FIG. 2) by means of which one end of strap 76 is attached to the leg portion 19 is provided with a head which can act as a snap fastener portion. A cooperating snap fastener portion 79 is mounted on the strap 76 near the center thereof, and the snap fastener portions can be attached together to shorten the effective length of the strap, as shown in FIG. 4, for carrying the seat in folded condition.
Further, as shown in dash-dot-dot lines 76b in FIGS. 1 and 2, the strap 76 may extend from leg portion 17, to which it is secured by fastener 78, substantially directly over a diameter of seat 75 and snap fastener portion 79, mounted on the strap 76, cooperatively attached to the snap fastener head portion of fastener 77, secured to leg portion 19, thus serving as a carrying strap for the hunter's seat in erected, unfolded, upright condition. Preferably the length of the portion of strap 76 extending between fasteners 79 and 78, when so secured, is great enough to permit swinging of the strap to out-of-the-way location in which it does not interfere either with rotation of the seat in unison with a user seated thereon or with lifting of the seat assembly 46 to gain access to the interior of the bag 26.
The hunter's stool with revolving seat illustrated in the drawings and described above is subject to structural modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
