Claims:
I claim
1. A fishing rod reel comprising a spool and a spool-fixing plate attached to said spool a main shaft, a bearing having said main shaft extending therethrough, said plate being slidably fitted on the outer surface of said bearing for the main shaft, said plate having a stem projecting from its back, a handle shaft, a gear fitted to said handle shaft and having an eccentric groove, the rear end of the stem projecting from the back of said spool-fixing plate engaging with the eccentric groove on the gear fitted to the handle shaft whereby the rotation of said gear actuates said spool to slide in the axial direction of said main shaft, said main shaft having on its outer periphery an annular portion of smaller diameter and parallel stepped portions provided at the forward end of said small diameter portion, embracing the outer surface of said small diameter portion, resilient biasing means for longitudinally displacing said main shaft, said bearing for said main shaft having a radial hole, and an arcuate leaf spring between said plate and said bearing, having a centrally positioned recessed projection and arc-shaped leaves on each side of said projection surrounding said bearing, said recessed projection engaging said hole of said bearing and penetrating to said main shaft, said main shaft having at different adjacent portions of its length said large diameter portion and said smaller diameter portion whereby longitudinal displacement of said main shaft will cause said recessed projection on said leaf spring to engage said smaller diameter portion of said bearing and one of said stepped portion of said shaft for being raised thereby to said main shaft large diameter portion.
Description:
The present invention relates to an improvement in mechanism for winding on or off the fishing line on a fishing rod reel.
The conventional fishing rod reel has been heretofore known which is equipped with a spool and bowl-shape spinning body which moves forward to unwind the fishing line and moves back to wind it up. In this type of known spool, which is designed to rotate only in a limited relation to the bowl-shape spinning body, there is a tendency for the line to be wound up only on a limited portion of the surface of the spool, which hinders a smooth unwinding of the line.
In this known device, at the rear of said spinning body, there is formed a concave notch, with which the line engages to be wound up around the spool by the rotation of said spinning body; thereby, the line makes essentially a point contact with said notch, which is apt to damage the line as well as to hinder a smooth wind on or unwinding of the line.
A purpose of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks, and its primary object is to provide a fishing rod reel that can assure uniform, easy wind up of the line around the entire surface of the spool.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a fishing rod reel which is equipped with a very simplified and accurately acting stop for the bowl-shape spinning body.
Still another object of the present invention is to have the rear line contacting surface of the bowl-shape spinning body shaped as an arc surface which helps smooth unwinding and winding on the line and does not damage the fishing line.

In the form of fishing rod reel shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, 1 is the frame; 2 is the main shaft supported on said frame 1 by a bearing 3; 4 is the handle shaft pivotally mounted sidewise onto said frame 1 and having an arm 26 carrying a knob which is manually operable, and fitted with a gear 6 having a tooth 5 on its lateral surface, at the rear side of said gear 6 there being cut a circular peripheral groove 11 eccentrically located with reference to said handle shaft 4. The base of the main shaft 2 is urged backward by a spring 7.
The main shaft 2 has on its outer periphery an annular relatively thin part of small diameter 8 and a square hole 9 penetrating said part 8 and said main shaft is supported on the frame 1. 10 is an arc-form leaf spring with a bent projection or recess or depression 12 (FIG. 4) at its midportion, said projection or depression 12 fitting into said square hole 9 of bearing 3, the bottom 13 of depression 12 contacting the main shaft 2, and the arc portions of said leaf spring on both sides of said depression 12 embracing said small diameter annular portion 8, thereby holding said depression 12 always resiliently in contact with the main shaft 2. At the midpoint of the forward half of the main shaft 2 there is a small diameter portion 13. In the large diameter portion of the main shaft 2 adjoining the forward part of said small diameter portion 13, there are formed parallel stepped portions 14 of the main shaft spaced-apart at the distance equal to the diameter of said small diameter portion 13.
When the main shaft 2 is pushed against the force of spring 7 by the manually actuatable lever 15, said shaft is moved leftward from the position shown in FIG. 2.
When the small diameter portion 13 of the main shaft 2 reaches the small diameter portion 8 of the bearing 3, the depression 12 (FIG. 4) of the leaf spring 10 engages the small diameter portion 8 of the bearing as shown in FIG. 4. Thereupon, when the manually operable lever 15 is released, the leaf spring 10 engages the stepped portion 14 of the main shaft to control the backward displacement of the main shaft 2.
In this state of operation, the bowl-shaped spinning body 16 mounted on the forward end of the main shaft 2 is in a forward position ready to unwind the line.
At the rear edge of the bowl-shape spinning body 16 there are provided several bent line-hooks 17 and a drawout convex ridge 18 with an arcuate cross section along said hooks 17. This ridge 18 has its arc face in contact with the wound up or unwound line, thus assuring a smooth sliding of the line without damage.
The item 19 is a spool slidably mounted over the spool guide 20 on the bearing 3. Twenty-one is a spool-fixing plate movable along the bearing 3. 21 is a spool-fixing plate movable along the bearing 3 together with the spool 19, with the auxiliary shaft 23 and the stem 22 respectively fitted to the back of the spool 19 and to the rear end of the spool guide 20, pointing toward the rear, the auxiliary shaft 23 fitting into square hole bored in the frame 1 and thereby permitting the spool 19 to move in the axial direction of the main shaft 2 but preventing said spool from rotating.
The stem 22 passes through the square hole provided in the frame 1 and on its rear end there projects a transverse pin 24 with a collar 24' (FIG. 3a ), Said pin fits into the circular groove 11 cut on the side of the gear 6. Since said gear 6 meshes with the gear 25 of the main shaft 2, a manual turning of the handle 26 causes via the handle shaft 4 and the gears 6, 25, a rotation of the main shaft 2.
Thereupon, the depression or projection 12 in the leaf spring 10 is pushed outward from the position shown in FIG. 4 by the stepped portion 14 of the main shaft until said depression or projection rides onto the large diameter portion of the main shaft 2, thereby releasing the restriction by its stepped portion 14.
As the main shaft 2 is all the time being urged backward by the spring 7, the main shaft 2 together with the bowl-shaped spinning body 16 will be withdrawn to the position shown in FIG. 2. When in this condition the handle 26 on handle shaft 4 is further turned manually, the line caught at the line hook or notch 17 will get wound up on the spool 19, while the stem 22, being guided by the circular groove 11 eccentrically located with reference to the gear 6, will make the spool 19 slide in the axial direction of the main shaft 2, thereby winding up the line evenly around the spool.
In the drawings, 27 is a limiting terminal cap fitted to the front of the bearing 3; 28 is a terminal cover; 29 is an orifice piece provided at the tip of said cover 28; 30 is a star handle; and 31 is a ratchet.
In the illustrated modified embodiment of this invention, the combination of the stem 22 and the pin 24 may be substituted by a single bent stem 32 as shown in the modification of FIG. 7.
